Re: School me on work/light gaming build

3. The GPU is... a bit pricey for the performance. No it isn't. The 1050Ti is a very good price/performance GPU . When you mate that GPU with the large cooler on this particular graphics card the bundle price goes up, but it's the added cooling performance that adds cost, not the GPU. Clearly you m...

1. AMD is less vulnerable than Intel and for your intended usage also a good choice. 2. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/4TCrxr/thermalright-cpu-cooler-machorevb Fairly easy to install and with stellar cooling performance, it also come with a good fan, and great thermal paste. 3. Re: Thorens TD125 + SME 3009 II Fully Restored

It was never a secret. :o In all honesty I never noticed I've always focused on the PC stuff. :) Yes, but any table showing capacitance drop of electrolytics shows a pretty steep decline. The longest I've seen cited as a usable lifespan for electrolytics is 15 years. And the longer it sits unused, ...

Lovely turntable and restoration MikeC should have figured you were into hi-fi, it all makes sense now.

The motor electronics PCB looked OK, no leaky caps, but they're 40+ years old.
As the saying goes: They don't make them like they used to.

Re: Quiet Liquid Cooled Gaming PC Build Guide

A great read, nice to get the take on watercooling from SPCR / MikeC. :) As Flinx pointed out, a second radiator would be optimal. Rule of thumb is 1X 120mm rad for each component you wish to cool, and 2X 120mm rad for each component if you overclock. Of course you have to achieve a balance between ...

Re: It is so hard finding a PSU doesn't have high pitched no

I believe most units will have some sort of electrical noise (not coil-whine), if you have to put your ear next to the PSU to hear it I would say that's "normal". I have a CoolerMaster Vanguard 700W and I can only hear a faint electrical noise when I put my ear next to it, other than that I can't he...

Re: LEPA LV12 Direct-Touch Heatsink

imo, the flexing of the 2 side bars is probably part of the design. All HS mounting schemes have some degree of give -- they have to, otherwise they risk damage to components. Thanks for pointing it out, it actually didn't cross my mind, it should have, but it didn't. Could be because it flexed so ...

Re: LEPA LV12 Direct-Touch Heatsink

I suspected it was going to be a bit of a let down on the performance front and the price kind of sinks it. I was surprised to see the sturdiness of that crossbar though, strange the other mounting parts didn't match up.

First class review as always.

Thanks.

Re: Mounting a CPU heatsink without the backplate

I would cut out a piece from the back-plate, alt drill out a bit if that works, so that the IC would fit. I would not use a 1Kg cooler without having it firmly secured not even in a horizontal mount. If you decide to go ahead with cutting or drilling make sure you carefully sand the edges and clean ...

Re: Thermalright HR-22 CPU Heatsink

Thanks for the review. I just bought the HR-02 Macho (three days ago) and I’m very pleased with its performance, the only thing I don’t like is the crossbar/clamp it came with, it lacks the centre knob. In any case, it seems I did a good purchase; it was dirt cheap over at the local computer shop too.

Removing the IHS as pointed out would be the approach if you're serious about dropping temps, that said, there are risks involved and you will void the warranty.

They don't make cases like they used too anymore. Quality is poor on most modern cases (those with a modern layout anyway), thin aluminium with flimsy plastic.

I miss the good ol days of Chieftec and Antec sometimes, they were built like German tanks!

It doesn't surprise me they're loud the way you've mounted them. I have a Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive for storage and it's very quiet. Made quieter still by being housed in a suspended Scythe Quiet Drive . My suggestion. Get a new case. It will be cheaper than replacing your harddrives, the new ones...

There's no confusion. The word also provides for a nicer flow.
