Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

I agree with kuzzia. It seems like the hot air is not being exhausted. It happened to me in an Solo II. The fans in the GPU spin like crazy but it looks that hot air recirculates again and again. Try raising your exhaust fan to cca 700 rpm and retest. You should look into the front fan. At that rpm ...

Re: Noctua NH-D14 flagship dual-fan CPU cooler

Moving my post from article discussion / recommended heatsinks here: I read that the genesis is the no1 HS for quiet/silent cpu cooling. I do not understand why it is not the NH-D14 because looking at the results from the Noctua test with 2 nexus fans: -12V/16dBA: 31 delta C - 9V/13dBA: 33 delta C ...

Re: Antec P150 - replace or upgrade?

Passive psu is not a good ideea in a p150 case but rather in the solo 2.
Mugen 3 is decent after lapping.

Re: New first build, would love feedback and tips on compone

The scythe needs sanding because of it's evident concave base and bad contact with your 1155 socket.. But if do that temps will improve big time. I gained about 8 deg C idle and around 10 deg C on load after lapping and artic silver 5 "burnout"

Re: New first build, would love feedback and tips on compone

The stock Mugen 3 fan is superb. On my intel board it stays < 400 rpm on idle/moderate load. Obviously I can't hear it. One advice though: IT NEEDS A SERIOUS AMOUNT OF LAPPING.

Re: Prolimatech Genesis CPU Heatsink: Retaking the Crown

Quick question: What should a 120 exhaust fan speed be like to effectivelly exhaust the air out of a solo case (for example) if your cpu would be cooled by a prolima genesis with both 140 fans on??? It seems sensible to me that the 120 fan should spin significantly faster than the 140 ones to keep u...

Re: i5 3470 too hot?

This is how the mugen's base looks after some lapping. I had to work hard for it to even up. Temps are now about 3-4 deg cooler. I ran some 30 min of prime95 and max temp was 57. I have to admit this is 5 minutes after reinstalling the cooler, with fresh artic silver 5. At 25-26 ambient temperature,...

Re: Two Noctua NF-P12 vs one NF-F12 PWM for CPU cooling

No matter what you do, a fair amount of its heat is going to end up being transmitted to the mother board. Therefore you should consider one of the gigabyte boards with the double thick copper on the mother board... coupled with a down draft cooler, to help cool the board. or a prolimatech genesis

Re: Mugen 3

Just for the fun of it (and the experience) I will eventualy lap the base. I hate to mount - dismount - mount -....the cooler endlessly. Don't think is good for the motherboard. I believe that the concave base is the only problem. It is not the first cooler I mount on a MB. I believe there is enough...

Re: Mugen 3

Ralf Hutter and MikeC, I admit thinking about lapping but did so very briefly. For the joy of silence and safety I will replace the mugen 3 with a new cooler worth whatever money I have left. I thought Scythe were serious about their coolers, but it seems that they are not. It explains their recent ...

Re: Mugen 3

Just to revive an older thread, and to bring more info about this ignored cooler. There are very few reviews and no spcr interest to wright about it. My experience with the mugen 3 (3100, rev b) is bad. Just bad: 1. It has a concave base: verfied with my own eyes both with a metalic ruler and from t...

Re: i5 3470 too hot?

SebRad:
All you said makes perfect sense.

I will lap though the mugen's base and run the system on 3 fans (1 intake+gpu, 1 cpu and 1 exhaust).

Still thinking of replacing the mugen with...(the better mounting systems for noctua, tr and prolima just keep me awake at night)...I'll see.
Thanks!

Re: i5 3470 too hot?

I could try to lap it but I believe the problem will persist since there's the unsolvable problem of the mounting system: just simple wing that bolt on the sides of the base and then extensions that link with the backplate; they just do not assure enough pressure. Lapping the base will certainlly ma...

Re: i5 3470 too hot?

To clarify some things. for me, load temps mean gaming (plus some background applications running) I run 1 hour of prime 95: with cpu and exhaust fans full on (1500/1100 rpm) temps stabilised within 2 minutes and remained around 55-57C. Vga rose to 60. Everything else was ok (pch, ram, vrm, hdd) Abo...

Re: i5 3470 too hot?

OK, so I did a couple of changes: - reinstaled the mugen, reapplied as5 (I put to much the first time around) and removed the nexus sandwich "push-pull" fans - mugen is now cooled by the scythe pwm fan (cca 800-900 rpm, MB control) - moved one nexus to rear exhaust (again cca 800-850 rpm, MB control...
