Re: Case Upgrade w/ i7-2600K and HD6970

I have a 6950 - they seem to put out plenty of heat - and are not that quiet. I doubt your 6970 will fare better. I don't think you should shoot for quiet silence that kind of set up - just a nice pleasant wooshing sound.. (something under 40db).. I'd go with a Silverstone FT02. Its pretty quiet - a...

Re: Case fan Lian Li pc-q08

Which fan they put in there? Lian Li usually puts 900 or so RPM fans in their cases which are very quiet. But maybe they put a 1500 rpm one in that one - which is pretty noisy. Hook up your fan to your motherboard and tell us the RPMs.

Its a 120mm fan - so you can swap it out for alot of other fans.

Re: Silverstone GD04/05 - Remove dust filters?

I have this case but emptied it out - and bought a Lian Li PC-9F with a little wheel thing to stand it on (seperate). I have zero WAF as my g/f is an engineer... I had the exact same problems you guys had.. It just wasn't cooling well enough - and with my attempts to make it cooler wasn't really sil...

Re: Silent case with decent ventilation for a casual gamer

Silverstone FTO2 (or Raven) - if you can afford it. Otherwise I go with the Lancool.. The Lancool has less side vents - and less vents overall then the 690II so while it doesn't potentially cool as well (though it still cools great)..its pretty quiet and they tend to come with pretty modest fans. Re: is 700D a better case than the P180?

I'd get the 650D - a much easier case to build with. The P180 looks like garbage in comparison (though this is subjective). It has a stupid door that you want to leave open all the time so your poor CPU fan doesn't spin itself into oblivion. The only thing I don't like about the Corsair is the windo...

Re: What reasons *not* to use Antec solo?

Fractal Design and Corsair both make cases far better then the solo - I would add some of the Lancool cases to the list.. So reasons include - MUCH better wiring, far better cooling, better setup (things like a bottom mounted power supply), more room to work in and better quality. I am not the first...

Re: Low air resistance, low fan speed, low noise technique

2) If higher airflow is needed, then the more open vents probably work better. There's something really annoying about the effect of air resonance in a mostly closed case with higher speed fans (or higher level of component noise); the noise becomes tonal. Personally I prefer the case to be complet...

I am on the fence if I should get some of these for my PC or go with noise blocker black silent pros. The NBs are bit more but come with sleeved cables (and two different cable lengths) and also have PWM version..

Re: Scythe Gentle Typhoon First impressions (pics added 8.8.

I totally agree:

They are great fans - I I found some for a reasonable price I would pick up a bunch. My point is that people are like oh at 1150 its so quiet. Sure. But so are slipstreams at 800. Still a great fan - and the high static pressure make it fantastic for alot of applications.

Re: Scythe Gentle Typhoon First impressions (pics added 8.8.

GT's are some of the best fans out there - maybe the best. But in fairness they need to spin faster to move as much air. The large center means that there is more of dead spot - and thus the blades need to go faster to move the same air. This doesn't mean they are a bad fan - on the contrary its pos...

Re: How are Gelid Fans in general?

I would love if Gelid fans were great - because they cheap and they are sleeved and they use FDB style bearings. That's win win win. But.. I am more persuaded by this: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/120-140-fans-roundup_28.html#sect0 Both the silent pwm and the silent wing are near...

Re: How are Gelid Fans in general?

I have one and it seems okay but Xbit labs did a round up a while back and they didn't fare that great.. I guess you get what you pay for - the top fans like the Gentle Typhoon AP-14/15 are nearly impossible to find and the NB blacksilent pro is 20 bucks a pop... Those seem to be the best fans along...

Re: Silverstone Grandia GD05: A Versatile HTPC Case

I have this case - and I have decided to dump it and just use a regular tower case on the floor next to my entertainment rack. After building so many tower computers these SFF cases seem like torture - and don't cool things as well as you might expect from the fans they have. There is no way to real...

Re: LanCool PC-K59 Midtower Case

This is nice case design wise.. What most gamers do is remove the top half of cage and keep both intake fans. This is probably what I would do as you get more cooling on your cards. Also I would point out that moving an intake fan to exhaust might in fact be ill-considered and not a fair test of thi...

Some aluminum cases are better then others - with thick enough aluminum and a careful design noise isn't that much of an issue. I have gone lately for steel/aluminum hybrid designs but aluminum from a quailty vendor can absolutely work, IMHO.

Call me crazy but after building a system this weekend around a GD04 - I kinda think that most people would be better off sticking a tower system on the floor. Butyl rubber or vinyl would be better then bitumen as they have less of an odor.

Lian Li cases can be made fairly quiet and I love the quality of some of them. Some of them look sharp too.. I don't like the looks of the B25 though I would mod another case instead..

Dampening materials are only going to block out the high frequency sounds (closed cell foam) or vibrations (dynamat extreme) - I doubt you have problems with either of those in your P182. With an aluminum case though they are great..
