7200.9, high-pitched whine + resonant hum, PLEASE help

I have a 160GB Barracuda 7200.9, which didn't bother me for a long time because I had a loud computer. The process of quieting my machine started when I replaced the notorious A8N-SLI northbridge fan. Shortly thereafter, I replaced the AMD stock cpu cooler with the A64 Freezer Pro. I thought it migh...

Any way to see Sonata mods thread pics, re HD cage airflow?

Or could someone describe their own? :) Specifically, I'm wondering about Opsman's airflow mods around the drive cage using foam. I used a piece of foam from a Thermalright box to block off both the bottom rectangle on the drive cage where the intake fan is mounted and the holes at the bottom of the...

Thanks for the responses, guys. Unfortunately, someone pointed me to the general case cooling forum... lol. Now I need to listen to my machine when I'm in the BIOS because my HDD is just too loud, and RivaTuner doesn't kick in until I'm in windows. So I'll go with the Rheobus, whose retail box actua...

Cool, thanks guys. That Zalman one looks like it would be fun to put together, if not all that easy, lol. :) I already have a Thermalright nb heatsink and it works great, so I'll probably shell out for the HR-03. My only concern with going passive is the fact that I live in southern California, so m...

Thanks for the tip and for moving my question to the right forum. :) My HDD is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 SATA 3.0 (not the newer one with the perpendicular recording tech). It's mounted using the Sonata II stock rubber grommets. Your advice makes me wonder if the drive is beginning to fail. :( I've...

PSU fan causing low-pitched resonance?

Hello, I thought this would be the forum for my question; if not, could a mod please move it? Thank you in advance for reading. The specs of my case are in my signature. My "intake" fan is one of the S-Flex fans (mounted using silicon grommets) running at ~900 rpm. I've turned this fan all the way o...

quiet cooling for nVidia 6800 "vanilla" 256MB PCI-

Hello, and thanks for reading. I own an eVGA 6800 256MB PCI-E video card and need a quieter cooling solution. I would really like to buy the Thermaltake ND1 , or even the ND2, but it looks like the capacitor between the 6th and 7th memory chips on the front of my card will be in the way of both thos...

Riva Tuner or Sunbeam controller to turn down stock fan?

Hi, quick question. I have a eVGA 6800 with the stock fan still installed. Can I use the Sunbeam Rheobus to control its speed? I'm currently using RivaTuner to turn the fan down to 50%. Also, does anyone know what voltage the stock fan runs on? I'm pretty sure the controller is designed for 12-volt-...

Re: my speedfan

my speedfan determiens what rpm i need...it works well... I took off the side panel and put my case on its right panel side..so the cpu fans heat can naturally rise up into the closets ceiling...worked a lttle..my cpu is now staying at 4096 at full. I have aspire infinity case...I dont have the fan...

hey raptor, I just researched the same issue with the same case. fwiw... I finally realized that PSUs are designed to withstand higher temps (to a certain extent, of course). I read posts here and elsewhere about setups where people use the PSU as their sole exhaust fan (not that I'm suggesting that...

fwiw... I don't have any way to test, unfortunately, but my personal experience with my case airflow and my tricool exhaust leads me to believe that the article is much closer to the actual performance specs of this fan. It pushes very little air at the low setting; I had an abundance of positive pr...

can I use a Sunbeam Rheobus to control the Ninja Rev B fan?

Thank you for reading. I'm buying two Scythe S-Flex Fans (SFF21E) and a Ninja Rev B today and I'm wondering if I can run the Ninja's fan using the Sunbeam Rheobus.

Thanks again. :)

first-time-poster.. which high-quality push/pull-fan PSU? ty

Hello everyone, and thanks for reading. Given the layout of my case (the Sonata II), a single-120mm-fan-style PSU is not an option (tricky, tricky, antec). I'm looking at the Silverstone Zeus 560W or the Tagan TG600-U25. (I know these are more than I need right now, but I eventually aim to run RAID ...
