Have you thought about making it 8 or 10min instead of 3 ? That way at least most songs should finish and the HD be read from again before it powers down. And face it, you will probably not hear the harddrive while you are playing music

Oh, i have an interesting one too. My screen, a Viewsonic VG712s has built in speakers. If i have those connected to the computer, whenever I move the mouse there's a sound, a bit like a slow rather quiet electrical shaver. If i use the same audio port with any other speakers, i get great audio. Fee...

Both of my Soltek NV400-64 mainboards, with AMD socket A processors, have a faint whine when the CPU idles. This is not a problem at all, though, because I'm folding all the time anyhow. Fold for quiet computing!!! I second that. I still have an old system with a Abit KD7-S motherboard with a...

If the drive just powers up and down twice a day or so, i doubt it will be that much of a problem. What would worry me is a 3min power down for a drive I'd use more than a few times a day. Especially if it would power up/down several times during a "use". This poses two questions for me. -Is it poss...

In other words, adding 18dBA to the 15.5dBA at 500Hz is not valid, as it is not well above the noise floor? Also, your post make me think that the +18dBA formula is only valid at certain distances? (if it is valid, I still have seen no proof for that  ) In that case, to me, the measure...

Re: Nexus 120mm PWM now available.

And a low db rating.....probably realistic, unlike some other brands. 500 ~ 2000 RPM (±10%) From 15.5 dB(A) Lessee here: 15.5dBA @ 500Hz. Double the RPM, add 18dBA, so 1000RPM = 33.5dBA. Double the RPM, add 18dBA, so 2000RPM = 51.5dBA. 51.5dBA? Yeh, real quiet fan. Can I ask from where you take th...

Is Gigabyte EP35-ds3 the way to go?

I am putting together a new system and is getting a D2C E8400 among other things. I was first thinking about getting an Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard, but I've found that the Gigabyte EP35-ds3 is only about 10€ more expensive, but newer and quite common among people in this forum. However, I have rea...

Hi all I have ordered a lot of new parts for my computer after some through SPCR investigation  and want some opinions. - Do you think this will be quiet "enough" (I'd like to be able to sleep a couple meters away) or might I still need some sound-absorbing materials, venting or other fixes? - ...

You can safely keep both the case and the psu, but I'd consider pulling the psu out and get it vacuumed properly (open it up and clean it).. CPU: E8400? RAM: 2-4GB PC6400 of some sort Mobo: lots and lots to choose between, I am partial to Asus... GPU: 8800GT 512MB with a HR03GT or an ATI 3850/3870?...

However, the graphic card stock fan became the new main source of noise, and an annoying such. I solved this by ...

Which cooler for a gf 6600 agp? (poll)

I have got a Club3D geforce 6600 agp that i wish to silence.

Many coolers have an issue with the separate hsi chip, however, as i also have a separate heatsink for it, at least the above should work. If you know of other worthy candidates, please post.

Thanks for the feedback and links. I'll probably try out a zalman vf900. It seems the reason why it is not supported by zalman is that they don't ship a hsi heatsink with it, but as I already have one of those there shouldn't be a problem. I asked Zalman about it as well, we'll see if i get any answ...

Really? Well, i guess that depends on what you mean with "fit". With the 6600gt it just sticks out over the edge a bit, and i think it is the same with the non-gt card. As a matter of fact, at least galaxy has produced a 6600 agp card with the vf700 as stock cooling. But what about passive cooling? ...

I have got a Club3d geforce 6600 agp card with stock cooling (It has got a separate HSI heatsink) Now I wonder what the best cooling solution would be? Thanks. Yep, i've checked the fans. The psu has quite a loud whoosh (It's constantly at full speed), while the graphics stock fan is not as loud but the noise is more of a whine. The case fans rate third. I use a fanmate with the zalman, so it is virtually silent. Oh, while at it, does anybody know ...
