Re: Antec Solo II Gamer

Thanks, guys! When I designed the machine, my priorities were, starting with the most important, reliability, manufacturer support, acoustics, serviceability, performance and aesthetics. Because manufacturer support was the second most important criteria for me, most of the components I've selected ...

Re: Tower vs. downdraft?

Hi lodestar,
Thanks for your insight, but I ended up going with the U12P SE2 because of its lower weight, lower price, and better performance with low airflow. It turns out that my concerns were only partially unfounded. I created a new thread about my new system here.

Let me first say that I was using the original Antec Solo in my previous build and the Solo II is a major improvement over the original for me. Re: Seasonic website listing Platinum 520w, 660w and 760w PS

I have the Seasonic Platinum 520 and it emits an audible buzzing that can be heard from a few feet away. The buzzing changes pitch if there is any hard drive activity. I will be returning it for the X-560.

Re: Gelid Icy Vision vs. Accelero Twin Turbo

Thanks for the responses. I wish I didn't need to buy the cooler so soon but there was a defect with the stock cooler where the fan rubbed against the shroud. I went with the Icy Vision and it did not work with the stock heat plate as depicted here so I ended up having to use the included RAMsinks a...

Gelid Icy Vision vs. Accelero Twin Turbo

I just received an XFX reference 6870 to replace a dead 5850, but my Thermalright T-Rad won't fit on the 6870. I did some research on Google and the 2 coolers in the subject caught my interest. What I like about the Icy Vision is that I can use the stock heatplate for cooling the memory and VRMs, bu...

Re: Recommendations for a good 16:10 aspect gaming monitor?

Still not sure about the HP ZR24W or Dell U2412M though. I hear that Dell have appalling customer service if you have a fault and the ZR24W doesn't do scaling properly. As I'm only going to be using it with my PCs, I can use the scaling options in Catalyst, but I'm not sure how well they work. They...

No. I am very annoyed by the buzzing from inverters in other monitors, but I can't hear a thing out of this one. I have brightness set to 7/100 and contrast at 100/100.

Re: Recommendations for a good 16:10 aspect gaming monitor?

Here's another recommendation for the HP ZR24W. I am very anal about the noise coming out of my monitors and of the quality of the panels themselves. Believe me when I say this: this is the quietest IPS monitor I've ever used. Not only is it quiet, but it meets all of your requirements.

Re: Intel 6-series chips are damaged goods, now what?

Why not just upgrade to a Q9300 or a Q9550 if you have such a need for a quad core? It's the cheapest option and the P45 platform is still solid for gaming. Hell, I'm still using a 975X chipset with a Q6700 and I can run all my games at 1920x1200 with near max settings.

Re: Need heatsink recommendations - new WHS build

Sorry, I should've been more clear with that. I meant the heatsink with the stock fan installed. Even if I replaced the stock fan with a slimmer fan, there would be a very miniscule amount of space between it and the PSU so airflow would be restricted. The more I think about this, the more I lean to...

Re: Need heatsink recommendations - new WHS build

Well, I attempted to assemble the system today and there's one issue. The CPU heatsink is too tall for the case by between 5-10 millimeters. With the heatsink mounted, the PSU can not be installed. I've presented three options to myself: return the Scythe Samurai-ZZ for something shorter, replace th...

That is my thought exactly. Like I said, I'll grab a scale and weigh both the WD10EADS and the WD15EARS just to make sure.

Here is the bottom of the drive:

My WD10EADS-00L5B1 has the exact same frame. I think this WD15EARS is indeed a 3 platter drive. I'll weigh the drive once I find a scale just to be sure.

WD15EARS-00MVWB0 - 2 or 3 platter drive?

I just received a WD15EARS at my door and it has a revision code of 00MVWB0. I know that a WD 20 EARS-00MVWB0 exists, but this is the first time I have seen this code on a WD15EARS. Does anyone know how many platters this drive uses? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/aznxgenius/My%20computers/wd...

Understood. How are the acoustics on the stock 140mm Lian-Li fan? I may just use it and undervolt it if it's decently quiet. And should it be blowing inwards or outwards since there's no rear exhaust?

Thanks for the tip. I changed it to a Scorpio Black (already have one somewhere). The Scythe Samurai-ZZ, Big Shuriken, and Pr...

Try not to use the drivers on the included CD if you can. They are usually outdated. Grab the latest drivers here. You can also download and install the latest BIOS as well as the Rapid Storage Manager (the Matrix Storage Manager has been renamed).
