Re: Question about buying used older 2.5" HDD's

Ok, I used the Internet Archive to see what the recommended 5400rpm drives were 4 years ago. This point in time seems to be a good place to start. :)

http://replay.waybackmachine.org/200704 ... page2.html

Will try and find one of those drives for sale.

Re: Question about buying used older 2.5" HDD's

Yeah, I started there but the only recommended 2.5" hard drives are newer 500GB models. And on the linked article at the top Is the Silent PC Future 2.5-inches wide? the best rated 2.5" drives noise wise are 4200rpm. :?

Question about buying used older 2.5" HDD's

I'm looking for a super cheap and small capacity hard drive for an older system, and a used 40-60GB 2.5" 5400rpm SATA I drive seems ideal for this. Will pretty much any previous generation 5400rpm laptop drive I end up getting be considered quiet by SPCR standards, as long as it's soft mounted? Or i...

Re: Slower than Fanmate 2?

When you feed a fanmate with 5V, the output is ~3.5V. This is a fixed voltage though and turning the fanmate knob won't change it.

Re: Antec 900 Drive Cage fits in a P180/2?

Yes, I know there is no hdd damping. The idea is to use it just as a professional looking extra air intake vent for the P180/2 without hdd's or fan attached to it.

Too bad it's out of stock, even the 1200 drive cage is out of stock too. :(

Antec 900 Drive Cage fits in a P180/2?

It seems like the mounting system of the drive cages from the Antec 900 (and possibly the 1200) is not proprietary and fits in other cases. I found this pic in another forum of a 900 drive cage installed in a Silverstone FT01: http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/9430/pc310263iw6.jpg These cages can b...

I had been looking at getting one of the Lian Li mini-ITX cases recently, so it was very nice to see SPCR come out with this review. Lian Li has another very interesting Mini-ITX case, the PC-Q11 . I'ts less deeper than the PC-Q08, has less 'bling' and less vents for noise to escape. I really like i...

Are you depending on the PSU alone to cool the hard drive(s)? Did your hard drive temperature(s) increased? (seeing as the PSU fan runs at an incredible 370rpm most of the time)

Looks like there's no way a 120mm fan would fit. You have two options:

1- Use a 92mm fan, which is the biggest that will fit

2- Exchange the case for something like the NSK3480

I would stay away from fan adpaters, unless you don't mind having the adapter and fan mounted on the outside of the case.

What's the airflow like at 370rpm? Would it be enough to cool a couple of hard drives in the bottom section of a P18X? (with the vents at the back of the case sealed of course..)

I guess it's the price you pay for having 5.25" bays on the sides... but somehow Lian Li managed to make their PC-X series cases with only one screw on each side panel PC-X500

They should implement it on the V351. Unscrewing 6 screws to get a side panel off is for the birds.

You don't mention your hard drives in your components list, how many do you have? What brand/models? Replacing the antec tricool fans is almost mandatory. I know it doesn't make sense to buy the case regarded as one of the quietest of all time and then having to go spend extra money on fans.. antec ...

You want to use as few fans as possible, so how about just using the top and rear fans blowing out in a negative pressure setup?

I can assure you an intake fan blowing fresh air at the PSU is not needed. And what PSU is it that with two 80mm fans?
