Re: Feedback and Suggestions for Silent Build. Fanless optio

Sound itself is nothing more than vibrations at the correct frequency to travel through air. As far as a silent PC goes, individual components are what make up the most sound. Fans and hard drives are the primary offenders, with whiney coils a close third. Overall, a computer doesn't have much else ...

You can search for threads started by my username, or recent posts, as I just updated my thread. Im on mobile or I would include more links. Re: Feedback and Suggestions for Silent Build. Fanless optio

If I may lend some $0.02 into this discussion, you could accomplish all of this using an i7, a 512gb SSD and a GTX980 with a particularly quiet cooler. You're welcome to take a look at my build thread, and Ill freely admit that while the machine is not absolutely silent, when the central air is runn...

Yes, Adobe does "limit" what graphics cards that are compatible, but you can add your own car to a text file that holds the list of what is compatible. There is a specific way to enter the name, and entering the wrong name means it still wont work. Selecting the right codec and workflow does make a ...

Ill give my answer based on my current setup and how I understand certain things to work today as far as rendering goes... With Adobe CS6, preview rendering is specifically performed by the GPU when you ...

Re: School Workstation Build (56k Warning [it's 2013 already

After nearly 3.5 years, the machine has finally received two of it's three planned (but unplanned) upgrades. Obviously, the 2.0GHz Xeons are not keeping up. 12 physical cores is a lot, but the workflow is becoming more demanding, and honestly, 4k is here to stay. Several things have been hammered ou...

Re: questions about hard drive noise and options for NAS cas

2x4TB drives will be quieter, in theory. If an object emits 12dB of sound, a second identical object will cause the total measurement to raise to 15dB. In effect, roughly +3dB for each additional unit. So 4x 2TB drives will be x+9dB, where 2x 4TB drives will be x+3dB. Again, all in theory, because d...

Re: New silent system doesn't BOOT

Do you have a buzzer speaker installed? It is likely giving you an error message via "beep code," but with no buzzer, you're unable to hear it. More than likely it's either bad RAM or CPU incompatibility with the BIOS. I've seen it a few times, and honestly the best thing to do is get a used CPU on ...

Re: quiet pc build for photo editing

CA_Steve is right. An i5 will be more than enough for what you're looking to do. A "generic" combo seen in many computers here is large tower cooler with wide fin spacing with slow moving fans to keep air moving. It does the trick in many computers as far as keeping noise levels down. It's sometimes...

Re: First PC Build: For music production

For the size, you're itching for 1080P monitors, but why not more? You could easily go with 1920x1200 or even 2560x1440. Even the integrated GPU should be capable of doing this. I have a NUC computer at work with the i3, and it's driving dual 1080p displays with no trouble at all. As has already bee...

Re: GPU temp gone up??

I've re-used thermal pads often, never had a problem with them. Whenever I apply TIM to whatever it is I'm working with, I just put an appropriate sided blob on the CPU/GPU die, and tighten the cooler down as evenly as possible to ensure the TIM gets spread by the contact. I've never had good experi...

Re: GPU temp gone up??

SPCR actually got a bunch of samples for a bunch of users a while back for Innovation Cooling Diamond 7. I used it on both CPU and GPU (at the time, 9600GT and Q9600). The results were very much in favor that the Diamond 7 stuff was really good compared to what I had been using. So good in fact I've...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build

How far out does the moulding stick? 1/2" or so? You can get a piece of 1/2" wood to stick under the cabinet so it can be raised over the moulding, increasing your .3" to allow a slightly wider case to fit and not damaging your moulding at all. Simple fix, relatively invisible to most who look over,...

Re: Planning a MiniITX Gaming Build

If the P182 is measured at 210mm, and the P182 is there, your space is 210mm. Not 205mm.

If I park my car in a spot, and then I remove my car from the spot, I can take a car equally as wide, and fit it in the spot, no?

Considering the source of both of my measurements is SPCR reviews of both cases, I'm going to say it's plenty safe enough to say that they're the same width. Regardless, I think it's a moot point. I think that it will fit, and I'm one to push limitations of what things are capable of. If the P182 fi...

So you're telling me that the full sized ATX case, that sits where it is now, cannot be replaced by a case that is the same physical width, while being physically shorter and not as long? The width of the P182 is 210mm, the width of the TJ08 is 210mm. I fail to see the difference here. Do I have a d...

I have a dual socket motherboard (LGA2011) with two Xigmatek Dark Knight II coolers on it. Since I have the square mounting, the heatsinks literally bolt to the socket (not through the motherboard). I don't make a point of moving my system around much, but when I have to, I have to. I haven't notice...

In the four years at my shop, it doesn't really matter where the computer is kept. If the person keeps a dirty house, it's apparent. I would ditch the intake fan entirely, and get a PWM fan for the rear exhaust. It will be 100% A-Okay from there. Eventually you could upgrade to a tower cooler as well, with a better PWM fan for that as well. That said, at idle and under light use, the stock Intel heatsinks are very quiet. They alw...

The Hyper 212 is actually a pretty short cooler. I've managed to get it to fit in a number of cases you wouldn't think it fits in. From what I can find, the Cooler Master height limit for the CPU cooler is in the range of about 160mm, so the 212 would fit. It might seem extremely tight, but it would...

If your P182 is seeing an increase in temps because the cat is sitting on top of it, you have 3 potential problems/solutions. 1) You're not using the best cooling method for it 2) You need to just block off the top vent completely 3) You need to put a shelf above the computer for the cats to sit on,...

If it's that big of an issue, you can get rubber or plastic standoffs that snap into the motherboard and will level out the board.

That said, in all of the computers I've built and worked on, provided the overhang is not massive, I have never noticed a problem if I had to leave out a standoff.
