Another server review using Photoshop for benchmarks? Really?
If I have to explain to you why this is a problem, you won't understand the explanation.

Re: Hardware.info 120mm roundup
Their testing methods weren't that bad. It's not like they tested a silent server and used Photoshop for benchmarks instead of file transfers, DLNA, HTTP, or Virtual Machines- that would be truly useless.

I just found an interesting supermicro 1u case although I'm not sure if I could fit a regular PCI soundcard in it yet (using a riser card and maybe some light moding) I'm looking for the same and looked at the case- if you use anything but their flex-atx atom motherboards, the rear I/O port holes n...

Re: cheapest PCI-X motherboard
Please name some (and if you can a low power CPU that goes with it). Goal is to use a SUPERMICRO AOC-SAT2-MV8 controller for 8 SATA ports. You might as well ask for a well-made, zero emission, Trabi, Lada, or Yugo. There's a reason why that controller is currently heavily discounted. The total syst...

Editorial Nitpick
"The TIM pad is soft and thermally conductive. A protective plastic skin is peeled off before installing the motherboard. The pad presses against the underside of the CPU/chipset, and helps to transfer the heat into the aluminum chassis, which enhances cooling via convection" I think an unenlightene...

Re: Mac temperture monitors & fan control
Hello, Well, my son found that there is a program that can control the minimum speed of the fan(s) in a Mac, called smcFanControl , and it does a decent job. If you speed them up, and then turn them down, they take a while to slow back down again. AFAICT, if the temps rise, then the speed ramps up ...

An interesting read. Does anyone know exactly what the magnitude of difference galvanic corrosion makes to the overall corrosion rate? e.g. Say for example we had a piece of aluminium of dimensions such that if put in water on its own 10% of it would corrode in a given time period, and we have a pi...

Re: Any good solution?
I have this same enclosure. Did you find a good replacement fan or solution to the noise problem? I tried opening up the holes and a Sunon fan, but the solution that worked best was "retasking" it. While I still use it for creating disk images, I usually just leave the room when its on. I use a Syn...

Zotac is definitely making some nice Mini-ITX boards. If this board had two gigabit ethernet ports it would be perfect for making an Untangle box. Thank you for addressing subjects I care about, in contrast to making me wade through pages of blinking ads peppered with a few sentences focusing on FPS in poorly coded first person shooters.

Do you need the 38mm depth? This will limit your choice of quiet fans. A lot of the 38mm fans are not specific PC cooling fans and are frequently intended for high airflow industrial applications. Static Pressure, as in overall case cooling with this layout works best with increased static pressure...

120 x 38mm fan suggestions sought
I have a mini server build ( pictured ) that is set up to work under positive pressure... I originally tried a Noctua NF-P series fan, but they weren't really all that quiet, the subjective properties of its noise were annoying, and it didn't develop enough pressure to be effective. The 1000 rpm, 12...
