Does this mean that the heatsink on the NB for rev 1.0 is not adequate? The thing is so hot sometimes that I can't even touch it. I'm thinking of adding a fan or even replacing the heatsink with a HSF. But not sure if it's worth the effort as I only use my media PC for a few hours a day.

I have some slightly better results for the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane (G2) than Mikael: 2.3 GHz @ 0.960v! Ran Prime95 Small FFT's for 16 hours, now doing Blend. If that goes successfully, OCCT and then done. I may try lower than 0.95 in BIOS but I'm already pretty happy to run stock at less than 1...

Hi nitram_tpr. I've also bought all my parts. It still amazes me that so much CPU can be bought for so little nowadays. :o I got a stick of DDR2 667 instead of 800 and realized my mistake afterwards. They don't offer returns or exchanges here. But I'm not too concerned since according to other forum...

I went hunting around for a 45W CPU and there were none. One place offered the BE-2300 but it had to be special ordered. Oh well.

So I was thinking find a regular 65W CPU and undervolt it. Now to scour the forums to find what CPU undervolts the best...

According to Tom's Hardware, even a Sempron 3200+ was able to decode Blu-ray. So a CPU like the AMD Athlon 64 LE-1640 AM2 45W would be fine? I think a Mini Ninja could also work with it.

If you are really fond of seagate, at least get a 7200.11. 7200.10 is by far the noisiest drive in the world. I have another 7200.10 and it seemed OK. I guess I'll try the equivalent WD or Samsung for a change. If you have $50 of wiggle room in your budget, look at the BE-2400. It's roughly the sam...

HTPC based on AMD 780G

A year ago, I built a solid 690G-based HTPC from the help on this forum. I recently gave it to a friend so I'd like to build a new one, capable of Blu-ray at 1080p and based on the well-reviewed 780G chipset. Price would be foremost consideration, then noise output and power consumption. Prices from...

My Sparkle PSU has a simple Protechnic 12v fan. Are you saying it won't work in my case? But if it didn't work, I could just hardwire back to the original spot?

Can you do this with any red wire coming from the PCB? It looks like it would sap power from another molex.

Sorry for the newbie question. I would like to do this mod on a Sparkle 200W mATX. :(

I just spent most of the day researching on this forum (which is awesome!) and planning my order. The ASRock ALiveNF6G-DVI had just gone out of stock when I started adding parts to my cart. While looking at the alternatives, I thought the 690G was an outdated chipset until I dug further. So I've ord...
