I had the same type of noise when using 2x Scythe S-Flex SFF21E's on an HR-01 Plus (push - pull configuration). I found that the pull fan will emit a very annoying sound that made it impossible to utilize two of the Scythe fans at once on the HR-01 Plus. Equalizing RPMs, having one fan slower than t...

If it fits the HD4870, it will fit the HD4890 (current reference designs). This includes the Accelero S1, Accelero Twin Turbo, T-Rad^2, HR-03GT, Musashi, Battleaxe, etc. Obviously full waterblocks do not apply though. They will need to be redesigned for the HD4890. The VRMs on the HD4890 should be e...

Many cards from the HD48xx series (specifically HD4870s) are very picky/intolerant when it comes to running Furmark. This is nothing new, and has been the case since the HD4870 was first released. As long as your games run fine, without artifacts, just forget about how Furmark runs. That being said,...

There is no monitoring of the actual memory chip temperatures for an HD4850. The temperature you're most likely referring to (MEMIO), is actually a specific section of the RV770 GPU core, and is usually the hottest of the three. This is normal. There is no need to worry yourself about the temperatur...

1. I have returned HDD's in the past because they were too noisy for my tastes. I've never RMA'ed them though, as the HDD's never failed any of the diagnostics tests. I'd recommend using Samsung's ESTOOL diagnostic software and see if playing with the AAM settings does anything. Also run the full di...

Cooling the HD4870 GPU with the Accelero S1 is never a problem. The cooler is more than enough with a single 120mm fan. The problem is the VRMs. Using the half-ass VRM heatsinks with the Accelero S1/Twin Turbo on the HD4870 is just asking for trouble. It's highly recommended if you have a reference ...

With the HD4870 you have two issues to deal with regarding cooling: 1. The GPU core. This is easily cooled during idle and load (gaming) with aftermarket coolers like the S1, HR-03GT, and other newer coolers. A low speed 120mm/140 fan is more than enough. 2. The VRMs. This is the killer. Most refere...

I have an HR-01 Plus on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L, and it looks fairly similar to your setup in the CPU area. As long as the brackets can be mounted securely, and aren't obstructed, you should be good to go. Mount the heatsink in the manner that exhausts the air properly. I have mine mounted south-nor...

ATT offers me [0,892-0,930-0,968-1,006-1,044-1,082-1,120-1,158]. (so in 0,038V steps) If I load my BIOS with RBE, some clock info spots have a visible voltage setting of 1.046. ATI could set this range to restrict overclocking, perhaps. I would imagine they don't care so much about potential custom...

As was the case with my Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, and now my current Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L, the SYS_FAN2 header is gimped and only outputs 5V, which makes it fairly useless. Great results Quietnevbie. Thanks for the info! I'm guessing you're seeing a noticable drop in temps (and maybe power consumption) going from the default 500/750 @ 1.046v (or 160/500 @ 1.046v) to your custom 2D IDLE setting of 50/500 @ 1.006v. Also, what is your exact range, with steppings? I'm gues...

Yes this ATT beta is the only utility that has allowed me to change clockspeeds. But I cannot underclock core at all because 500 is the lowest value, and I can only underclock memory by 10mhz at once because the lowest value is current-10mhz.. and then I have to reopen the window to underclock more...

That's a shame, it seems reducing the memory speed returns the biggest power savings. Does 160/500 for a 4850 reduce it's power consumption by much ? * Do you have any links about reducing 4850 power usage I could follow up on ? So, what kind of power consumption did you see with these clocks? You must have missed it; "My total power consumption now at 160/225 @ 1.063V is 94W, compared to 500/900 @ 1.263 being 139W. A total savings of 45W. Not bad." This is in 2D (IDLE) state. Also, is the GPU voltage tied to the GDDR volt...
