I have tinnitus as well. It's a pure tone at 7200 Hz that the audiologist said effectively masked tones that were up to 8dB above ambient. I can't recall exactly when the tinnitus began, but it's been at least 10 years that I've been living with it. It's present 24/7, although it seems to get louder...
