Re: Desperate Times

Well, it crashed again when I switched to my secondary monitor only after having run it in duplicate mode only a minute or so. The screen got all fucked up and I couldn't do anything. Going to leave the computer running tonight with memtest on but, I think its becoming fairly clear that its the Grap...

Re: Desperate Times

Well, I went for an i5 3350P and an ASRock Z77 Pro4, which btw has an awesome BIOS, and a new PSU just in case. My old Seasonic 430w was running well but I wanted a modular PSU for less stray cables, got a Corsair RM 550 as a friend of mine recommended it and it was on sale (Its even tidier now alon...

Re: Desperate Times

I'm in Sweden so, prices vary a bit here in comparison :)

I can get a i5 3350P and ASRock Z77 Pro4 for just under 363$ and I think that's what I'm gonna do. I'll wait with the GFX a bit longer, if the 660GTX could drop a bit more in price I might just get one for Xmas ;)

Re: Desperate Times

Huh, didn't know that... I only got my 2000mhz Dominators cus' they were on sale and about 5$ more then a pair of 1600mhz, figured it was worth the extra 5 bucks. I'm still trying to find a 1155 board without integrated GFX, 6 USB backpanel slots, SLI compatability is a + but not a must... but they ...

Re: Desperate Times

Intel has a 3 year warranty and that's just passed unfortunately, same for the Motherboard. I have to replace them myself :/ So its back to trying to find a 3350P and a Motherboard that fits and can handle my 2000mhz memory. Most of em' just go up to 1600. As for a GFX, I'm tempted to get a used 460...

Re: Desperate Times

Thanks for the answers guys! What I'm struggling with are BsoD's, small freezes in the system where the mouse pointer can dissapear and a few other issues. My thread from just under 1 year ago is here . I feel like I've done what I can for this system, last two days I've uppdated the bios, all the h...

Desperate Times

Hey! Been quite a while since I've been here, last time I was asking for help for my computer and well, despite getting some great help and trying several different things I've decided to simply change my motherboard and processor to start with. Desperate times calls for desperate measures! Current ...

Re: Computer Freezing at Random!

Thanks for all the replies guys! And no, no front Audio connected, in fact I unplugged those from the Motherboard too. As for checking the PSU, you think its somehow run out of juice? Cus' 430w should easily handle my components... and its not like it always freezes under load, sometimes its when I'...

Heh, yes. Yes I did :) Both by resetting factory defaults and then with the battery on the Motherboard. It was better for about a week :/

Computer Freezing at Random!

As the title says... my damned computer has started freezing at random. I think the first blow was when I had a controller plugged into the front USB of my Antec P180 and then kinda smashed it while I was vacuuming ^^ The Front USB Port is now a bit damaged, you can connect a device if you get the a...

Well, the 2000mhz CL8's were about 30$ cheaper then CL7 1600's so that's what I went for :P As for SLI, I've decided against it. Thanks Cerb for the advice, I'm just not playing at the highest resolutions due to my 22" screen being 1680x1050. Overall, I'm really happy with my build. Got a Gigabyte G...

Thanks for the replies dudes. I know they usually pump up the wattage "required"... Hm. Yeah I'll stick to the 430 for now. I'm on a P182 Chassi with 2x 120mm for negative pressure in the case, 1TB Samsung F1 Spinpoint and a CD-DVD RW combo player. A friend of mine just got a i5 760 and he's pleased...

Hell, Its About Time.

So yeah, after I've been playing Starcraft II its just become really obvious that my good ol' 8800GTS aint quite up for the task anymore. Neither is my RAM tbh. And I do wanna play Mafia II at some proper resolutions... So its time for an upgrade! Its just that this has probably been the most confus...

I got my Cyclone 1gb a week ago for $215 and I've been very impressed with its acoustics. It idles at ~35C and loads at ~55C in an open case. At idle the Cyclone's fan is significantly quieter than my Nexus 120mm @12v. I am only able to hear the fan if i put my ear within 6" of the card. The card d...

First off I just wanna say that your setup is really nice Falcon26 :) Second, it really inspired me to fix my extremely half assed cablework in my own 182. Now, there's not a single cable in the way of anything and I'm so happy. It also helps that I finally got rid of my 2x IDE hdd's & IDE burner......

Thanks for the links kater :) I think I'm gonna wait with the new system though, summertime is almost here so I won't be sitting in front of my comp that much until fall. Perhaps the prices on a 8800GTX have fallen even more by then or ATI have come out with their DX10 card ;) I'll probably be back ...

where?wolf I'm probably getting an 8800GTS from Leadtek next month so when you've checked it out could you perhaps post on it's noise level/heat when you get yours? :D Haven't been able to find much info about the 8800GTS tbh :P

The only thing you really seem to need is a bit more memory tbh :) And like autoboy said, prices drop quickly. If you do want to invest in the future getting a DX10 GFX is your best choice although atm the price is rather steep, some 8800GTS will drop pretty low though like the 380MB version, althou...

Maelwys, I think this may be the thing you are looking for http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_ ... 8&view=yes. The X1950XT ICE-Q is supposed to be a lot cooler and more quiet then your average X1950 :)

If you're looking for a GFX that is good while still not emptying your wallet I'd take a good look at the X1950XT which is atm probably the best priced card out there. I'm personally thinking of an 8800GTS now, but the X1950XT was my first choice since it is such good value for money, but I've alway...

My bad about the GFX, it is a X1950XT , just didn't think properly when typing it I guess :) I've been looking at a 8800GTS from Point of View as well, but as I'm a bit unsure on the noise and cooling for it, I'd rather go for the X1950XT ICE-Q. As for the P5N , thanks for the tip! Checked it out no...

Seeking some advice

I'm not bad with computers or anything, in fact, most of my family and friends consider me to be the guy to go to when in need of computer advice. Yet when it comes to building a silent, cool & powerful system I'm out on rather thin ice I think :) So, I've been coming to this site for the past half ...
