Have you tried to undervolt your CPU? Does Shuttle support this? Normally this Venice allow for rather heavy undervolting which brings down your CPU temperatures significantly. And with such a small case every every watt less matters.

DFI UT nf3 Lanparty 250 GB ist undervoltable and has speedfan support for CPU and case fan (which btw. is worse than the support in the BIOS). It is a ATX socket 954 board (Sempron or Mobile Athlon 64), so not for everyone.

IIRC the iPod drives are 1.8". And 1.8" are quieter than 2.5" drives, but also way slower. And they have rather strange interfaces that make integration in a normal PC rather difficult (this may change, when 1.8 " drives with Serial ATA become available).

Haven't seen a 35 watt Low Power Mobile Sempron, but I've seen Low Power Mobile Athlon64s. They should be quite a bit faster, but (for me) were too expensive (~200 Euro , ~250 USD) to risk them for the experiment I'm doing now ... I've checked DFI for a Bios update, but there doesn't seem to be one ...

to make it clear: it is a Sempron for Socket 754, so to speak a Sempron64.

It should support Cool'nQuiet (or PowerNow!). CPU-Z, CrystalCPUID and RMClock all think, that the CPU is CnQ enabled.
