Cool review! Thanks a lot.

Does anybody know which of the (good) fans are available with a 4 pin connector that can be used to better monitor and control the fan speed?

If I need a second converter, where to get one? And a second question: Is this the same with the Shuttle PSUs? B...

I guess swapping the fan would help enough, but the fan is only 10mm thick and it's difficult to find an 80*80*10mm fan, especially if you're looking for a quiet one....

New AOpen Mini due out soon (hopefully)

AOpen will announce a new Mini PC at the cebit 2006 in March. Dailynews has the scoop . Pentium M, 945M chipset, DVI, 6*6inches, silver/blue (arguable), IR sensor, will be sold as a barebone with remote control. No word on VIIV. No word on the cooling solution, but it does look very proprietary, so ...

Of course your voltages are a bit higher than mine, but not by that much. Remember that the normal core voltage of the Semprons is 1.4 volts, so everything under 1.2 actually is good. When you put your bios thresholds to 30 and 40 degrees your fan should be off when the CPU is at 4*200 and should be...

Sorry for taking this somewhat offtopic:

Have you tried to undervolt your CPU? Does Shuttle support this? Normally this Venice allow for rather heavy undervolting which brings down your CPU temperatures significantly. And with such a small case every every watt less matters.

DFI UT nf3 Lanparty 250 GB ist undervoltable and has speedfan support for CPU and case fan (which btw. is worse than the support in the BIOS). It is a ATX socket 954 board (Sempron or Mobile Athlon 64), so not for everyone.

IIRC the iPod drives are 1.8". And 1.8" are quieter than 2.5" drives, but also way slower. And they have rather strange interfaces that make integration in a normal PC rather difficult (this may change, when 1.8 " drives with Serial ATA become available).

The quietest 2.5" drive with 5400 rpm ist the Scorpio 1 platter (40 GB). This is undisputed. You may find a 4200 rpm drive (good guess is Toshiba) that is a bit more silent. But these drives are much slower. Noise measurement is difficult: at idle? At load? How to weigh the different noises? Some fi...

The number are lower than the 35watts TDP of the new Turion. If these were normal, the Turion wouldn't make any sense. I'm sceptical ... though if correct, these Venices would be a killer.
