Re: reducing whoosh sound of 2.5 drive - recommendations?

Pressing too hard on the top can indeed kill it. However, the idea is to transmit vibrations to a denser mass to absorb them. As such, pressing hard or gently achieves pretty much the same result (depending on how dense is the 2nd object) ... i.e. no need to press hard. However, to be effective, tha...

Re: reducing whoosh sound of 2.5 drive - recommendations?

Anyone knows of an effective way to muffle/silence the whoosh sound of 2.5" drives? Does gently pressing against the disk top panel (when wooshing) change anything? I knew of this old trick. Unfortunately, while it does slightly muffle the whoosh, it doesn't make much of a difference. I have a feel...

http://www.storagereview.com/samsung_spinpoint_m9t_hard_drive_review The M9T is highlighted by its capacity and physical size, but there's plenty of other engineering inside. What about the Western Digital Slim (WD10SPCX) 1TB ? I just posted this about the new WD10SPCX: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=67652 I quite dislike their whoosh noise ... waiting on 3 x Samsung M9T (667 GB/platter) to see how they compare. Theoretically, a single M9T shou...

reducing whoosh sound of 2.5 drive - recommendations?

Hi all, I got 4 x 2.5" WD slim 1TB, 7mm (WD10SPCX) and they are currently sitting on 4 vertical hard rubber rails, which are suspended form the top. No vibration transmitted to the case or in-between drives. The whoosh sound they make is pretty high. I was expecting some since they are acoustically/...

Re: 3TB, 2TB or 1TB noise-wise (WD Red vs Samsung F2 so far)

Note that I tested the WD Reds without booting into the OS, with only the power cable attached (to speed up testing). Does anyone know if they spin faster without the data cable attached? Also, does anyone really know the max rpm of these drives? Is it 5900rpm? Some people are saying 7200 rpm but I ...

Re: Opinion [sought]: 3TB, 2TB or 1TB noise-wise in RAID con

I just had the chance of testing the WD Red 3TB and 2TB drives. I tested 4 drives of each kind (8 in total). The results are quite interesting, and also disappointing. All drives have quite different acoustics, despite same model. - The 3TB ones varied with as much as 2.2 dB between the quietest and...

3TB, 2TB or 1TB noise-wise (WD Red vs Samsung F2 so far)

Hi all, I'm going to purchase a bunch of drives and I'm interested in primarily noise and vibration and then size ... I don't care much about speed. The drives I'm considering are: - 3x 3TB WD Red 3.5" = 3disks, 3platters of 3.5" - 3x 2TB WD Green 2.5" WD20NPVT = 3disks, 4platters of 2.5" - 5x 1TB S...

I can tell you that the Corsair ones are annoyingly loud, with the same buzzing/humming noise. I had the H100 and returned it straight way.

You should however create a new topic about it (or did you?).

I wanted to buy the MCP35X but for the life of me I couldn't find it in Europe for a reasonable price to get it into the UK. I bought the Laing D5 in the end. Actually, I bought the Alphacool VPP655 SINGLE, which is basically the Laing D5 without any top. Separately, I bought the EK D5 pump top EK-D...

Thanks very much for the reply, Matt. I read a bit more about the MCP35X PWM and it appears to be a nice pump, also quite powerful. Martin reviewed it and I could listen to it (sounds like the DDC-1T), and he also compared it against the DDC, D5/PMP-450/VPP655/MCP655 and the Aquacomputer XT Ultra (l...

Yes, I've seen those silentboxes recommended by others too. The DDC-1 pump in this review http://martinsliquidlab.org/2011/03/10/pump-noise-testing-round-1/ sounds the loudest of the bunch, and quite annoying in my opinion .. granted, the reviewer could have offered a reference sound of some sort fo...

Funny, someone posted in the past about exactly this: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=553064 "An interesting test of pump noise at martinsliquidlab says that the best pumps, when fully decoupled, can deliver 1.6 GPM with about the same noise level as a Gentle Typhoon at 700 RPM."

Which pump was that? I tried the Corsair H100 and I returned it on the same day as the pump noise was just horrendous (granted, we're talking SPCR standards, but it was absolutely annoying). The pump in this video is also very annoying to my standards: http://youtu.be/i15O2ZF_W-w (most probably he h...

Pump as quiet as a 12cm fan at 700 RPM?

Are there any pumps as quiet as a 12cm fan at 700 RPM? I do too but that's irrelevant. I'm interested for this particular keyboard, the UltraX. Not all USB keyboards work with a USB->PS/2 passive adapter.

Sorry to resurrect this zombie of a thread but do any of you know whether the USB version of the UltraX works with a passive USB -> PS/2 adapter, i.e. to be then used on a PS/2 port.

(please don't ask me to buy a USB card for that machine .. it's for a very different purpose).

Why does the access time bother you? Maybe there is a workaround but it's pointless to try to improve a benchmark score. So what operations would you like to speed up? I offered benchmark results in order for the others to actually see what access time I'm getting. How else would I measure it? I pr...

Samsung F2EG 1GB (HD103SI) very high access time 20-25 ms

Hi, I've ignored this for a very long time and finally found some time to post about it. Some time ago I purchased two of these drives.
