Re: Any recent motherboards that allow fanspeed @ 0 in BIOS/

Good info, thanks for the replies! I'll keep Asus and Asrock in mind. Any idea about whether or not Gigabyte boards support this, generally?

Any recent motherboards that allow fanspeed @ 0 in BIOS/UEFI

I'm looking to upgrade in the very near future, but require a motherboard that allows me to set a fan curve starting at 0 RPM in BIOS/UEFI. The idea is that for low loads the fans remain off entirely, and only ramp up when fanless cooling is inadequate. I mostly use Linux (Windows only for VR), so W...

MX switches can be made quieter with O-Ring dampeners- like this http://www.thekoolroom.com/product/max- ... s-110-pcs/.

Re: Gigabyte GA-F2A85XN-WIFI Mini-ITX Motherboard

It was mentioned in the review that the layout is irrelevant because it's itx -- I disagree. The layout prevents this motherboard from being used in passively cooled cases such as those from Streacom or HD-Plex. To me, that is a huuuuge downside.

Re: Fanless gaming PC ( Streacom FC5, GTX660ti )

I e-mailed Streacom regarding GPU cooling the FC5 and received the following reply:

"hi,

thank you for your email.. We are planning to introduce the vga cooling in March ( because of CNY we were not able to finalize it)

Streacom"

Should be interesting to see what they've come up with!

Re: Soundless and powerful Streacom FC5-based system

Seems like the A10-5700 would have been a better choice with its 65 watt TDP instead of the 5800K's 100 watt. Have you tried any games yet?

Re: Fanless gaming PC ( Streacom FC5, GTX660ti )

Thanks for the reply and additional pictures. It might be worth it for me to drill some holes after all. :) However, it may not be necessary. When I look at Streacom's own manual, it shows the 'GPU side' with pre-drilled holes (identical to the ones drilled for the CPU-side): http://www.streacom.com...

Re: Fanless gaming PC ( Streacom FC5, GTX660ti )

Very interesting! I have two passively cooled PC's myself (Zalman TNN500Af and an Atech Mini Client 2500). The Atech is outdated and can't really be upgraded so I'm looking to downsize my TNN system into something that fits on my desk a bit better. The Streacom is a serious option but I have no inte...

Re: TNN 500AF + SSD + 6 monitors

I'm definitely interested in seeing the end results. ;) Saw your post in the other thread and the custom cables you ordered, I'm sure it'll end up looking pretty good. Did you end up getting the proprietary 2-pin connector? I tossed my busted PSU before I realized the 2-pin connector is unavailable ...

Re: TNN 500AF + SSD + 6 monitors

My TNN's power supply blew up as well. ;-) Since mine isn't a high powered machine I replaced the original PSU with 150watt PicoPSU. I mounted the brick internally to the door (using double sided adhesive tape, which is perfectly dependable). Using one of these cables - http://www.kenable.co.uk/imag...

Cool build! Bought a used TNN500af a couple months ago and struggling to find a use for it. The original power supply gave out immediately after I bought it. Your build gave me some ideas. :)

Did you get the lamp to work?

That is a very useful illustration! I had no idea that the boards were actually narrower. :P That expands my options tremendously. I think my problem is solved simply by purchasing a Z77 Asus motherboard and use Fan Xpert 2 software to disable the fans when not gaming!

Re: Need a 120mm fan that I can turn off using BIOS controls

Thanks Mike. The motherboard is up in the air, but the Asus motherboards I've looked at don't qualify for one of two reasons. Either there's a large MOSFET cooler above the CPU which (I believe) blocks my TNN500's heatpipes or they use this weird new motherboard mounting configuration (2 holes on to...

Need a 120mm fan that I can turn off using BIOS controls.

I have a Zalman TNN500af case that I would like to add a reasonably powerful GPU (7770HD) to. I'd like the PC to be silent 90% of the time, and for the fans to either ramp up automatically when gaming, or have some sort of software option to activate them when required. I'll be using a Gigabyte GA-Z...

For people desperate for a passively cooled mini-ITX system that looks good, you could always look into getting one from atechfabrication.com at three times the price. :P

Looks nice, but there's no airflow? I would attach the motherboard to the top of the case, and install a bottom mounted 500 RPM 120mm fan right below it. This way it'll look just as sleek but you can have great airflow with very little noise.

I think we can all agree Antec has completely lost the plot, however... that new suspension mechanism looks really good. Far more solid than what's in the Solo, and it should be just as effective. You should be able to actually move your case around a bit without fear of your HDD's falling out. Too ...

^ truth. I don't understand why you would pay the premium for an mCubed case and then not utilize its passive cooling system. That's the whole appeal of the case. :)
