Re: Fractal Design node 304 or core 500?

decided on the 500. I just added the 3rd 3.5" hdd and will be there for quite a while. I just don't see going more than 3 hdd's. (famous last words lol)

it was availible and not expensive, should be okay. thanks again.

Fractal Design node 304 or core 500?

need a new case to house Mini-ITX board and ATX PSU (140mm) and 3 x 3.5" HDD

could even be a mini-tower, just thought a bit smaller form factor would be nice.

do not need a window.

thanks for ideas

It all worked out in the end, took 5 days to get the Noctua.

Thank you again, for all the help.

Re: Mini-ITX gaming/work

I ended going like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XpZvZf I had some help on the parts, the first recommendation was for the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev B cooler and that backplate didn't work with the ASRock board. I ended up with Noctua that worked perfectly. Brother-in-law is happy with the machine, r...

the Mugen5 backplate was on top of a chip on the board. mugen5.jpg mugen5_2.jpg scythe_email.jpg I ended up going with Noctua NH-U12S Chromax.black, and Noctua NF-F12 PWM chromax.black.swap fan for the rear. noctua_cr.jpg It's booted on the bench with the 2) 140mm be quiet fans on chassis fan 1 head...

Re: Fractal Design Define Nano S - Quiet case fans?

great info once again.

probably stick with stock Mugen5 fans. Noctua's are great tho.

3 case fans, 3 headers, maybe one for the CPU fan, so splitter needed?

hopefully, I can dial all the fans in pretty well.

Re: Fractal Design Define Nano S - Quiet case fans?

went with a single 1tb SSD for now. I was thinking 2) m.2 SSD since the board supports. 550 Watts is fine with the 2070 super? there are 3 models of the 2070S. this one seems to have the 0db feature. was trying to stay within the budget and went ddr4-3000 g.skill. 3 case fans and 2 fan headers on th...

Re: Fractal Design Define Nano S - Quiet case fans?

This is a *huge* help! his current motherboard is Asrock, they have always worked well for me. I really like the case! should not be a problem with 2.7 slot card? we were hoping for something with no window. just don't see anything that works. (smaller and 2.7-slot GPU support) will change the case,...

Fractal Design Define Nano S - Quiet case fans?

I am going to assemble a PC for my brother-in-law. he wants to game a little, not a hard-core gamer. we wanted quiet as possible and I noticed that the Asus ROG STRIX Z390-I GAMING Mini ITX has only one case fan header. this case has 3 case fans, was thinking about replacing with Noctua fans? (140mm...

the LG monitors I was looking at support AMD Freesync. since I am not a gamer I wonder if that really matters?

there is also a fanless GT1030. I think MSI w/DP

It's an older PC - sandy bridge i7. was going to wait for 9th gen to replace it. I may try the Asrock RX 550 and see how it goes.

the monitor is 27" UHD.

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?

checked some numbers tonight, MSI Afterburner doesn't do much, card seems to have a mind of it's own. if I uncheck Auto and set it at 50% it still stays at 36%. fan runs at 0% until it reaches about 60C then the fan come on at 35% or 36% a little over 1000RPM when playing 4k movie, about 6-8% GPU us...

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?

i uninstalled MSI Afterburner since it was very quiet stock 35%, I can install it later tonight, I want to ski today :-) i am picky about fan noise and it's quiet. when i play 4k video I think it went to about 1100rpm and was still quiet. I will double check everything tonight. also, i *did* get a r...

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?

Installed Gigabyte D5 1050 and it is nearly silent at 30% 920 rpm. looked like 4 wires to fan and also looks like i can set lower than 30% if needed.

newegg will charge 15% restock and shipping back on the Zotac 1050.

Zotac never replied to my email.

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?

yes, no lower than 45% and clearly audible, I have 2 weeks left to RMA the card, wanted something smaller in case i move to Mini-ITX board/case, right now just a quiet card would be nice. my GD05 case will hold about all. Gigabyte GTX 1050 D5 is making sense at this point. will figure out where to b...

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?

Nearly all gaming cards should allow for fan profile adjustment...if they don't we need to make a list of "don't buy this frigging card". Return it if you can. The MSI Gaming would be a better choice. It's longer but still only 9" and dual slot. Passive at lower loads. i better double check before ...

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?

Probably a stupid question - have you tried a gfx card fan utility program (like MSI's Afterburner, etc) to see if you can alter the fan profile / lower the speeds? What min speed are you seeing? I just tried MSI Afterburner and doesn't seem to control the fan. I read something that some cards may ...

changing fan on GTX 1050?

I bought an Zotac GTX 1050 Mini for my HTPC and it's just a little louder than I would like. Re: New build, need quiet cooler please

I just installed the very latest Fan Xpert+ (note the "+") version 1.01.06 and it now allows me to test the *chassis* fans, it's not greyed out. strange thing is when i run the test, I can hear the fans ramp up to full speed, but the readout says around 400rpm for all speeds. The fans still run at 1...

Have you tried the CPU heather if the Slipstreams can go below 1000rpm there? have you also tried FanXpert on Asus AISuite? Re: New build, need quiet cooler please

Sitting here with my new "silent PC", much louder than my last PC. Going to have to rethink this. it's a bit too audible for me. I added the stock 1200rpm to the bottom of the Define Mini with the controller and have it set to a low silent setting. the noise is coming form 3 Scythe PWM fans that wil...

Re: New build, need quiet cooler please

Up and running Win7 x64, runs very well, all latest drivers in place etc. Just installed 3 Scythe fans. Set the BIOS for Silent and they are running at 1000 rpm, the CPU is 400 rpm. I must say I am very disappointed in the chassis fan control on the board. the Scythe case fans will not go below 1000...

Going to try the passive Asus as above, ASUS ENGT440 DC SL/DI/1GD3. If you mind: http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGTS450_DC_SLDI1GD3/ . yes, this looks like the one. I hope it will cool well if I change the fans in the case. need to see if the Gene Z has PWM headers for case fans ...
