Vostro 200 cpu fan (pwm) rpm too agressive at load.

I have a vostro 200 slim desktop. I upgraded the e4500 to a e6600 and ever since, the stock cpu temp/rpm fan control has been too aggressive. It never seemed audible before. Now at load, the fan ramps up to a loud 2400 rpm and the cpu temp is stable at 53c. Idle is 1700 rpm and 42c, which is not bad...

They're FBA08A12L. I know the wiring is a mess, but it's easy to work with. When I first got the case, there were stories about removing the bottom of the PSU bracket if your PSU is inverted, to suck hot air off the CPU (and heat up the PSU while you're at it). The case arrived before the PSU and I ...

Old PC70 relegated to WHS duties, 7 drives, 4tb

This was a PC70 I used in early the 2000s. Very oldschool with custom tailed L1As. I added a SIIG SIL 1334 SATA adapter and a mix of 500 and 750 gig drives. It now sits in the closest, where I I turn it on every couple weeks to do a WHS backup. The back L1As are routed behind the mobo plate. There's...

Thanks for the kind words. The cat's not shy--he's actually a total slut. Something I didn't mention but that you can see from the rear pic is that I mounted the gasketed fans with zip ties. I got some rubber mounts for them but they didn't have enough clearance once the gasket was in place. So I ju...

Wow. Nice. N64 controller? Yep, using this with Goldeneye and Project64. Looks great at 1280x960 windowed. The best n64 adapter is called Adaptoid. It has memory card support but it's no longer sold. So I just used cheats to get all the 007 cheats (all weapons, infinite ammo, turbo mode is how I ro...

"Playmobile!" 8) Holeee rig batman! Nice x four. Any worries about cat hair getting in that beaut! Playmobil link . It's cheaper elsewhere. Hair's not a problem but he likes to stick his paw in the back exhaust. I'd rather not put a grill on it, but that's what I did with my last case.

Cosmos 1000, it's full of stars!

First off, happy birthday to me. I turned 27 on the first. Here's my new rig, a decked out Cosmos 1000 feat. the usual suspects with some twists. EDIT: I just listened to the newest GP. If I leave the drive idle for ~10 seconds or longer, then poll SMART values, it will click, meaning it unloaded. But unload count doesn't increase! So the newer GreenPowers don't show the real number of soft unloads, probably due to general panic caused by la...

HSF orientation for Cosmos 1000

I'm gonna be putting together my Cosmos 1000 RSN. I know the usual practice is to mount the HSF to be blowing out the back of the case, but the Cosmos has 2 upper exhaust fans that I plan on using, and I'll have 2 passive Asus 9600GTs to consider. All the fans will be Scythe slipstream 120mm Ms bein...

Nice build. Get well soon if you're not better already.

I felt the 182 to be a little cramped as well, being used to oversized lian lis. I'm happy with it though.

My internal monologue needs silencing sometimes. People say to listen to the little guy inside your head, but he goes on and on and can be a real downer sometimes! Music and exercising helps with that, and when it's DDR he definitely takes a hike. One thing I don't want to silence is my Model M. Cli...

Using SY1225SL12M instead of NF-P12 with NH-U12P SE1366?

I got a NH-U12P SE1366 for my soon to arrive i920. Any reason to use the Slip Stream M instead of the included Noctuas? I haven't plugged either in to hear how they sound. Of course I want the quietest thing possible. I understand the Scythe will be louder at 12v. I will either be plugging them into...
