Nice choice of parts, less power means less heat so easier to cool. Less than 100W load and 50W idle is awesome! I would be tempted to keep the e5200 at stock, but see how low you can drop vcore. You may even find with a low enough vcore you could run the e5200 with a passive cooler! Is ATI powerpla...

Silencing pump whine?

I've got a Swiftech Laing D5 Vario MCP655 12V DC Pump It's pretty quiet when set on low, but I was wondering if there are any ways of making it quieter? I've tried adjusting the speed, and I've also mounted it on foam, and made sure nothing is touching it... Is there anything else I can do? Wrap it ...

Yep, i should have mentioned that you really need to be confident with a soldering iron to do this. In the UK, we have 230v, and if you get it wrong, it could be rather dangerous to say the least. Those wires carry electrical current - they need to be thick just in case lots of current needs...

ACTUALLY...Im back in Vegas now...I forgot to change my location  Changing right now... Hehe, no problem. I e-mailed the guy from nexfan, and he says he can ship to the UK, so it's all good. :) Ordered. A sticky thread would be good... It seems yate loons are real popular round here, which is...

can you please post how you made the PSU heatsink? how are internal components conected to it? I think I got the idea from a thread on here. 8) Here's how I did it... it took most of a day to do, but the weather was good so I didn't mind. 1) Open up the PSU and unsolder all the parts which are bolt...

I never thought of having a fan on the bottom of the case. I've got a jigsaw, so I can cut the holes anywhere really. Should be doable tho, and the hole is already in the front (the 5.25" bays) which is always good. Do you have any more pics? I would like a couple more to get a better idea as to how...

I'm not sure if this will help, but i picked up 5 brand new 321kj 320mb spinpoints recently, and they all had nidec motors. They get quieter after a few hours of use. 8)

Best way of cooling 5 spinpoints on my fileserver?

A picture speaks 1000 words: http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/MikeHunt79/IMGP0366.jpg the top 5 drives are brand new 320gb spinpoints - nice and quiet. :) bottom one is a seagate barracuda 4, it runs cool no matter what. That huge black thing on top is a passive heatsink for the PSU. 8) the mo...

Re: The 65Watt Challenge!!!

anyone think it's possible? Definitely. I've got a rig here, and it's pulling less then 50W from the wall with 5 SATA drives and 1 IDE boot drive connected. :) It can pull up to 60w tho, depending how non-idle it is. Here's the spec: Random cheapy 280w PSU I had lying around (modded to fanless) Epi...

Re: i have

I have one with pink goo, it's a little louder than what I would expect but not bad. I've now tested each one, and my pink goo one is quiet, while my 4 green ones are noisey as hell. In my shuttle rig, I have a 250gb diamondmax 9 mounted with elastic, and just one green goo 7200.10 is much much lou...

Anyone else have whiney Seagate 7200.10's?

If so, what have you done to remedy the problem? I'm in the middle of building a fileserver that I want to be as quiet as possible. I've got a barracuda 4 as a boot drive, and 5 x 320GB 7200.10's that are raid 5'ed, to give me ~1.2TB of storage. :) I've suspended all the drives, here's how I've done...

Did you enable the checkbox for the X850 in ATITool? There is a setting in there for that under the "Settings-Fan Control". Doh, I didn't try that... I'm using ATI tray tools, but I didn't have a chance to give ATI tool a go. It's fine on the motherboard header for now... I can use speedfan to cont...

I've done a bit of reading, and it's the card that's at fault (the PWM controller is crap, basically). I've re-wired the fan to my motherboard header, and now all is good. :)

Ahhh! Noisy Arctic Cooling VGA "Silencer"

I've got one of these bad boys on my x850xtpe - Arctic Cooling ATI 5 Rev.2 (X850 Series) VGA Silencer. I can't link it as this is my first post. It cools well, and allows a bit of an OC, which is nice, but the fan has a problem. Anyway, I'm using ATI tray tools to control the fan, and it seems so ha...
