Yours may well be the new stepping. Plus which PC probe is unreliable giving incorrect temps. On an Asus board you should get good temps from coretemp or RMclock. Essentially you can add about 15degrees to your temps there, in which case yours is rocking about the same temp as mine

i use an asus p5b deluxe with my quad core. It 'handles' it fine. Got no idea what the previous comment was about there, but it did need a bios update to be fully recognised as 4 cores. I chose the p182 over the sonata and solo options as it has a reasonable airflow to help cool the q6600. 650W psu ...

I too find it a stressful thing. If I'm working on a machine making loads of noise I just can't concentrate, produce lower quality work etc. I barely hear my pc during the daytime, especially on hot days like today when I have the window open. I can however atm hear vibrations but that's because I s...

Cool. I see your reasoning. Been working somewhere recently that codes sites. Everyone had two screens bar me! (I'm a 3d animator, though, not a coder). I toyed with 2 screens for a while at home but found it irritated me past a point. I prefer one big screen, but I have to admit when you have refer...

Woo, that looks grand. May have a go at that myself. Got a similar heating situation. One thing I've wanted to know... would making a duct like this out of cardboard be dangerous, ie too flammable? :P

Looks good. Like the muffler. That and the fan controller which I have too showing we're both a classier form of cheapskate! It's the cheapest one I could find.

Possibly live with it. I replaced my cpu fan with a 1600rpm s-flex yesterday so i have extra headroom for the sweltering days which aren't afflicting Britain atm  I found afterwards that the temps in my case dropped 5 degrees when taking the side off ;) I have an intake and exhaust, both 1200 s...

Your 8800gtx might appreciate an air intake via the upper hdd chamber but give it a go without and see what happens. I find a slow moving fan there helps with temps across the board.

hey that's cool. Since reading this thread I've reseated my ultra 120 heatsink which kind of had the appearance of a heavily iced cake  I did the grain of rice thingy and shifted fans about a bit. Managed about an 8 degree drop on my q6600 doing that  Still loads up near 60 on stock but ...

I've got the Sammy SATA on P5B-Del. It's fine and dandy. No probs so far other than my old Slax linux live disc didn't like it. That's a SATA thing more than anything and I've rarely used that Slax disc at all. I reckon the Samsung is pretty quiet when playing back DVDs etc, but when it spins up for...

yeah it is. I used to get it on my CRTs. All it is really is your graphics card sending lower or higher amounts of frames to your monitor than the refresh it runs at. eg my tft runs at 60Hz... send more than 60 frames per second and tearing occurs as it doesnt sync the frames with the monitor refres...

Yup that's pretty much it ;) Also you'll notice tearing more on a tft, so if you've switched screens recently that doesn't help. Not sure if actually happens more, but I certainly notice it more myself.

Hi all, following your great help I have my old PC for sale on ebay UK for you crazy fools. Ah ok, thought that was a bit backwards. How about "system" temp? Does that mean ambient or something else? It's often in the 40s which seems a bit mad for ambient. Room temp here is only about 20!

Sounds about right to be fair. My q6600 runs at similar temps, though the cpu temp reads about 45, so a great deal lower than the core temps :?
Never pulled the Ultra120 off and had a look. I don't for fear of having to spend ages cleaning the gunk off and reapplying it.

Quad cores are pretty specialist. I do 3d cgi stuff, so have xsi rendering whilst preparing composites in after effects etc Mine's pelting away at 100% usage pretty regularly. There aren't that many other uses on a non-server level. A fast dual core will outperform this when it comes to most other t...

Yeah one of the other reasons I have the upper bay in atm is to give all my wiring something to hide behind! If I remove it and mount the fan at the front, it may be that the wires introduce turbulence. I still haven't done a comparison test, but I'll maybe give it a go later ;)

Depends what you're doing. I went with ddr800 as it provided the best power per pound ratio based on reviews on the net. The 1066 stuff was only showing its colours in seriously overclocked rigs.
