FS UK: 3 x Nexus 80mm White Fans

I have 3 of the original Nexus 'Real Silent' 80mm white fans, 2 have never been used and come complete in their boxes, 1 has had very little use. All fans come with rubber grommets to attach to case with. £16.50 for the three including shipping within UK.

Ceiling fan advice

Seeing as most people around here are sensitive to noise, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any decent, low noise ceiling fans (42" ideally) available in the UK. I am particularly worried about the humming that is endemic to some fans and would like to spend under £100.

DIY Whole House Fan

I'm hoping someone here may have faced similar issues, hence will have some guidance regarding my issue/ideas to combat it. I live in a top floor apartment which is very well insulated, great in winter, but not so good in the summer as it gets unbearably hot. Heat seems to collect near the ceiling a...

Well, I have had 3 or 4 Samsung 2TB HD204UI's through my hands now, all have had problems with data corruption and most had something rattling around inside them.

Here is the screenshot of the second drive: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9840/hd502hi.jpg Which seems to dip rather dramatically too, should it have such dips?. I think there must be some kind of problem with the boot drive, as when I tried a system restore I get this message: http://img822.im...

Problem with my 2TB Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint F4

OK, So I installed Windows 7 and everything seemed OK. Decided to run Hddtune and was getting dips down to about 50/60mbs in the first 200gb or so of the drive. That didn't seem right, so I updated the motherboard chipset drivers and now I get dips down to 2mbs when running hddtune, in fact hdtune s...

Re: Windows 7 Installation tracking & RAM

The OS restore point idea doesn't work for the reason you've stated. OS in VM is not an option, because firstly I want to run Win 7 (which would need another license, presumably), would waste a lot of ram and certain parts of the OS wouldn't be able to interact with native hardware. This just for ho...

Re: Windows 7 Installation tracking & RAM

I'd use a backup for reversing changes. Windows keeps getting fatter but hardware gets faster even quicker and you can restore a image fairly quickly now. Even better: simply run the software you want to "cancel" in a throwaway copy of a VM. But if I use VM, I have to install/run a whole operating ...

Windows 7 Installation tracking & RAM

Does anyone know of a decent freeware piece of software for tracking all (file/registry etc) changes that a piece of software makes during installation and hopefully one that allows all changes to be reversed (perhaps asking too much). Also, I'm late to the bandwagon with Win 7, but my 64 bit Profes...

Re: Windows Computer Maintenance

The problem with anti-virus/malware etc software is that it is reactive and retroactive. There has to be a threat before it can act (hence constantly updated definitions) which means you're always vulnerable to infection and furthermore you have to be infected and in immminent danger before anything...

Thank you, just the kind of answer I was after. In the interests of frugality, have you ever cut the corners (well, not the corners, the bit along the hole through the fan casing). Seems might be quite messy and difficult to do straight, though I suppose you only need a little notch into the barrel ...

Rather than a PSU fan swap, Nexus makes their own power supplies, and SeaSonic has an excellent reputation for quiet to silent PSUs. I own both brands and can vouch for their low volumes. For you the Nexus Value 430 should be ideal as it's the quietest activly cooled power supply I've ever used and...

So, I'd like to build myself a system to use as a DAW, but want to do it on a budget thus: £80 or thereabouts for processor - thinking Phenom II X4 840, seems best bang for buck at this price £80 for Motherboard with integrated graphics (preferably with USB3 ports, though I'm not entirely sure what ...

5 years away from PC's, want a new build, please help.

OK, my current PC is a 754 Athlon. Not only is it getting long in the tooth, but bits are starting to die and replacement parts are as expensive as new fangled computer bits, hence the want to upgrade. Firstly, I'd like to keep the build as cheap as possible, say around £50 each for MB/CPU/RAM. I h...

If that is true then just buy a monitor that runs off mains AC voltage instead of off a DC power brick. Unless the monitor is badly designed, they won't need to put an inverter in there at all. Are you sure there isn't a DC power supply inside the monitor?. I was of the understanding that all LCD m...

Running up against a wall?

These days it's easy to create a very quiet PC, what with the proliferation of large heatsinks and smooth sounding fans. Yet with the moving of the power supply into the back of LCD monitors (purely to save money?), we now have a new menace to deal with...monitor squeal. For instance, my last monito...

Is there a significant difference in the power consumption of the various 780G motherboards,as I need 3 PCI slots, else I'd go for the Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM* board.

Any recommendations regarding boards with 3 pci slots/should I be looking at boards with other IGPs aswell?
