Re: SilverStone Grandia GD09 & GD10 HTPC Case

Frankly, I think mATX is better suited for high performance HTPC usage.
It's smaller, cheaper to build a mATX HTPC case without sacrificing flexibility of discrete display card.

Just my 2 cents.

I encountered 3 times of coil whine during past 15 DIY years. 1. Gigabyte 2600XT whine. Solution : replace it with ASUS 3650 display card. 2. Seasonic S12 430W (1st gen) whine after changing MSI AM2+ board to ASRock AM3 board. Solution : Swap Seasonic with Superflower 350W gold. 3. Powercolor ...

Re: Samsung M9T 2TB (2.5-inch) & Seagate SSHD 2TB

I've been using Seagate Laptop SSHD 500GB for two months. It took SSHD at least a week to learn what programs I'd frequently used. After a painfully slow week, the SSHD finally managed to flex its muscles. Boot time / Firefox / Outlook etc showed pretty decent loading time boost. For example, Firefo...

Re: Silverstone ST40F-ES - Noise level ?

As it's constantly on sale for USD33 here, I purchased one Silverstone ST40F-ES for a friend's modest gaming PC. For noise level, it's as quiet as Seasonic S12 series at light load. I can't hear bearing noise at close proximity. Sorry that I can't comment on high load as the PC can only consume 170 ...

Thanks for yours' reply. Since I don't need NAS/Raid specific features of WD Red, I guess Green's quietness should be very similar to Red and can satisfy my need of storage use...... But it's my speculation. I want SPCR approval anyway.

Hi all

Can anybody share his experience with WD 3TB Green (30EZRX) in terms of acoustic sound and vibration?
I'm going to get one, but I'd like to know the experience of SPCR residents.

I trust SPCR more than others. Thanks.

Re: Can you guys recommend me some case fans?

Based on my experience, CM case bundled 120mm fan is average .... You can make it quieter by slowing down RPMs, but you cannot make it quiet enough by SPCR standard due to its clicking sound characteristics. Anyway, you can give it a try before purchasing a new fan. If you are not satisfied, you can...

You still have to have GPU muscles to play demanding games, but the experience/frames will be better/smoother judging by reviews. But I'm skeptical about its success in the near future : 1. Proprietary for nVIDIA GPUs, and no Intel/AMD involvement. It'll certainly slow down the adoption pace. 2. Mon...

I like G-360. To be fair, it's pretty much the only 300W range Gold unit on the shelf. But I just find it ridiculous that I've to purchase Antec 450W unit for friends' budget yet quiet builds. It seems that people think bigger is better in PSU market regardless of their usage. Corsair CX430, which i...

How often do you access HDDs? It's almost impossible to silence/absorb 4 HDDs' operating noise and vibration. Then there would be a fanless PSU for everyone! If so, they've to cease/discontinue X400/X460 first. Otherwise, G-300? would conf...
