No, I was thinking of the BF... this page says ~.1mm thick (typo?), but I was looking at the Alu one earlier... says ~.2mm thick here.

Heh - Falcon vs Butterfly.

According to FrostyTech they both have .2mm fins though... maybe the copper is just stiffer?

Spanki, your model has a problem. If the fin thickness is 2/3 standard, and the spacing is 2/3 standard , then there have to be exactly 50% more fins. ...I guess I'm also a bit confused about the spacing part. The situation I was trying to illustrate was based on your original comment... The theory...

Spanki, your model has a problem. If the fin thickness is 2/3 standard, and the spacing is 2/3 standard, then there have to be exactly 50% more fins. I think if you study the first diagram image, you'll see that it's correct - each set of 3 2mm fins take up exactly 4.3mm of space, which is made up ...

(BTW, that heatsink is just a model I had been working on... similar design to a Tuniq Tower or Scythe Mine, but with 4 8mm heatpipes... I just grabbed some of the parts of that model for this illustration).

curiouser and curiouser...what HSF is it and what's this theory? Shucks - I wrote #2 first, and thought the SPCR site had lost it. The theory is, it isn't the spacing but the % that's aluminum and not air. If all cooling fins are .3mm thick, then it's the same thing. If you can find an HSF that has...

It's up to you - whatever you're more comfortable with. Personally, I think 85C is the right number for desktop cpus (quads may be different though)... as mentioned in that link, TAT was originally created for testing mobile rigs. On my system (L2 stepping E6400), using 85C also make the numbers mak...

Re: A newish kind of heat-pipe heatsink from 3RSystems

Sure you can - if you don't mind having a SilenX re-branded unit in your machine :). Thanks! It even got over 2mm shorter than before! :D Cost savings? :) (not that they'd pass that on to consumers... seem like they're charging more than I'd expect for that cooler). I do like that mounting system t...

Re: A newish kind of heat-pipe heatsink from 3RSystems

Even better, the 90mm-fan version stands only 113mm high, and so will mount in my Aplus CS-188AF chassis (I have two so far) with the big fan stock-mounted (internally). And it weighs only 378g. And I already have 2ea A-C PWM 90mm fans that I've learned how to best use... The bad news is, I can't b...

cmthomson got it mostly right... For the E4300 cpu (along with other "Allendale" cpus and the L2 stepping E6300 and E6400 cpus): - CoreTemp 0.95 , TAT and maybe some others use Tjunction = 100C - CoreTemp 0.94 , SpeedFan 4.32, PC Wizard 2007 and most other programs use 85C - cmthomson mentioned that...

The differences already listed above are all I can think of. I did notice that SPCR has a review of the ACF7Pro , which includes a recording of the fan used on it... which definately has some 'growl' or motor noise that the CM unit doesn't have, but you may not notice it inside your case (seems to d...

Re: Scythe Mine vs. Katana 2

Well from your recommendation it sounds great but I'm a little weary of its noise level. If I get the Hyper TX 2, which only has a 3 pin plug, how would I manage its speed? I don't want it to be running constantly at 1800 rpm unless I can't hear that, which seems unlikely. As for the rebate, it doe...

Another cooler that looks very promising in that latest MADSHRIMPS roundup is the TTIC NPH 1000. It's cooling / noise ratio is slightly better than the Hyper Tx, but it does have a bolt-through mounting mechanism.

I'm just not sure if you can find it available yet, or what the price will be.

The AC unit is usually cheaper online, but I recommend the CM unit over it, due to it being quieter, better design (IMO), and aesthetic reasons. I agree with everything you've said, Spanki, but I'd like to add one more datum: the TX is a half-inch taller than the Freezer. So the Freezer will fit so...

BTW, that FutureLooks link above compares it to the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro and they performed pretty much identically (if you ignore the weird bit about how long it takes to cool back down after load). Anyway, that's the only review I've found so far with the ACF7Pro included in the comparison,...

Re: Scythe Mine vs. Katana 2

Since the Mine most likely will not fit my motherboard, does anyone have other recommendations for quality coolers that might? Cooler Master Hyper Tx (or Tx 2, which has universal mounting): - it cools better than the others discussed so far above. - It has a relativey small footprint. - light weig...
