How to silent my DVD-Rom

Hi Guys,

I have a DVDRW recommended on this site for being fairly quiet... but I can say it aint :( - I have seen some comments about on software that slows down the drive? Is this correct... if so what should I look to install to slow the spin down?

Cheers,

Can I get freesat HD through Vista MCE & Sky Dish?

Hi Guys, Just setup a second room in my new house as a second TV/Games room. The aerial in the house is awful and I dont get decent signal. I have a Sky Dish already setup with Sky+ in the main TV room. Wondered if it would be possible to get a Satellite TV card for the PC and link this to the SKY d...

Thanks, gone with the 209 II and it will be mounted in a rack cab in my roof, so noise is not an issue.

Went with the 209 in the end for its Surveilence software which I think I would make use of in time :)

Possibly a bit overkill, but certainly some of the functions it offers I would take advantage of. Thanks, would you mind if I dropped you a PM if I got one and got a little stuck? I woul...

NAS Box Recommendation for my environment

Hi Guys, Been reading up on what raid boxes are avaialble and it seems the D-Link DNS-323 is a pretty decent choice. I have a stack of old SATA HDD's and so this could work well. My home network is as follows: Vista Home Premium PC - Acting as a Media Center Apple iMac - Running both MacOS and Vista...

Sapphire 3850 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB

Thanks to your help here and a few reviews online, it seems the 3850 runs at half the temp of the 3750 yet is not too much slower. Searching for stock of a 3850 has proven difficult, but has led me to find this: http://www.expreview.com/img/news/071130/sapphire_3850_512mb_15.jpg http://www.expreview...

3850 vs. 3870

Hi guys,

Any reason to choose one over the other... ignoring costs.

I dont game much, but do run a 30" dell monitor at silly resolutions. I would like to cool it silently, preferably not passively as my case suffers from poor airflow (OrigenAE X11).

Should I ditch my passive cooled 8600GTS?

Hi Guys,

I think its time for an upgrade... wanting to move to ATI, but not sure if this is a wise thing. Are there any passive/silent cards out there wiht an ATI chipset that would offer better performance than the 8600?

Thanks,

Well my E6750 runs VERY cool in my "average" air flowing HTPC case. CPU temp reads at 25degrees - core 1: 15 core 2: 16 at idle. When pushed these figures dont change hugely. A MASSIVE improvement from my AMD 4200 x2 which ran at around 45-55 degrees at idle.

That is exactly what I thought... I was just thrown by the fact that there are low profile single DVI cards out there that have some form of DVI splitter cable in the box which DOES actually support 2 x separate monitor signals. I guess this must be a proprietary DVI connector/cable.

Thanks

Single DVI Low Profile VGA Card -> 2 x Monitors?

Hi Guys,

Am I correct in assuming - if I own a Dual Link DVI low profile graphics card with a single DVI-I connector - I can get a DVI splitter cable which will allow me to run 2 x monitors through Windows (as separate displays)?

Thanks,

I chose the gigabyte too with DDR 2/3 support.

I was tempted by the Q6600 but was unable to find the B0 stepping and so settled for the E6750 - more that quick enough and nice and cool. Both cores idle between 15-20 degrees c :)
