I can't get it to work at all with P5K-dlx.

Someone post up if they get it working, I need some fan control.

Yeah I guess there's a big difference in these conroe chips. I was just curious because at 3.4ghz my chip is several hours stable in Orthos Blend with only 1.31v and temps are idle 30c load 47c. After re-positioning a 120mm fan I finally got my case airflow sorted so that temps are same side on or o...

I know it's a give and take with the sound thing. I just want to understand how that gets you 20c higher temps.

cmthomson - How come your temps are so high @ 3.2ghz? Even in Orthos blend that's high. Is it because you run your fans super low for less noise & the insulated case?

Another thing, IMO you don't want to let CPU temps get up above 60c even running Orthos. Just don't do that. You see a lot of overclockers do that but remember that a lot of those guys are hobbyists and the parts to them are for fun and somewhat disposable. Reel it in and keep things cool. Bah! CPU...

I use the thermalright Ultra 120. It cools like a champ, bracket works - solid lockdown, no turning. It is heavy and tall but it fits P5k dlx. If you're worried about hang on any of these coolers thre are ways to secure the top of the tower with ties so that it's secure as hell, and you don't have t...

A lot of stock cooling is just plunked on with thermal tape. I like to replace or reseat them always. When you ditch the old boards it's not a bad idea to pop off and keep the sinks. You can dice them up and use them on mosfets etc..

So this thread is just a statement about the board quality then? That's cool.

I've bought boards and wished someone had warned me about the issues.

I still think it would be good to post this at DFI club if you want relevant feedback.

Hey man, go check out the DFI club forum. http://csd.dficlub.org/forum/index.php DFI can have all kinds of funky boot issues, but the admin over at the forum are really supportive. If you can get into the bios after powering up, you can fix the board. At worst you might get a new bios chip and fan. ...

Yeah I'm sure they mean remove the case fans - fans attached to the inside of the case. The fans on the motherboard, and possibly the video card, are called active coolers or heat sinks. The fans on those are part of the cooling devices and need to stay. You absolutely need active cooling on a Barto...

Re: P35 fab process & power consumption (from The Tech R

From The Tech Report : Now that's unexpected. Despite lower DIMM operating voltages, the P35's DDR3 configurations consume more power at idle and under load than when the chipset is running DDR2 memory. The power consumption associated with running a faster memory bus may be offsetting the lower pe...

P35 is 90nm. When comparing the power consumption results for p35, understand that some of those articles are referring to P35/DDR3 power consumption. Power consumption for DDR2 on P35 is comparable to 965. Not an improvement but fine. Edit - hmm, it seems the results in different reviews are varied...

Honestly, I think alcohol is fine. I've been using 70% for decades in the recording studio on far more sensitive parts than metal sinks.

It's widely used to clean vinyl records too, which are way more fragile. None of mine have dried up yet.

You know what that's true for me as well. I only have one AMD - Barton 2500 on an Asus A7N8X DLX. I built that in October 2003 and it's actually still solid as a rock and quiet.

But now I'm building Intel so I 'm looking to find a quiet board if possible.
