P182 with AcoustiPack

Here is my P182 with acoustipack. I have removed the lower hard drives and lower chamber fan since those pictures were posted. http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43738 I overclock my Q6600 to 3.2GHz and my CPU temp is ~32c per core as measured by Core Temp. Ambient temp is ~20c. I ...

Here's a recent article on RAID performance. Tomshardware's reputation has steadily declined over the years due to bias and quality so take it for what it's worth. Cheers.

It took me a little while to figure how remove it. It seems to be firmly fixed in place, but the black plastic bracket in the lower chamber is designed to come out. I can't exactly remember how to remove it. I believe you can push in the two hooks closest to you and then slide the bracket out.

I think they used the RAID on the motherboard. The Intel D875PBZ motherboard has onboard RAID, and there's no mention of a separate RAID controller in the test bed description.

RAID 0 is not likely to provide noticeable performance increases.

"The real world performance increases are negligible at best"

Unfortunately, I don't think the foam will help if the noise is primarily coming from your fan opening.

The foam helps with any high pitched noise from the hard drive, video card, psu, etc. I'm more susceptible to high pitched noises so that foam has been great at eliminating those frequencies. It has a parallel and serial port header on the motherboard. It comes with a slotted I/O which you plug into the port headers. The disadvantage is that it takes up a back slot if you need to use it.

I have a 2.4GHz C2D. With two 120mm exhaust fans and one 80mm cpu fan, the cpu idles around 30C and system temp is around 36C. I don't think I need that many fans if my HTPC sits in an open space. However, my HTPC will go into a media cabinet and that's going to heat things up a bit.

I don't really need to have the 80mm fan. The 80mm fan does help lower the cpu and overall system temp 2-3C. I figure it couldn't hurt adding the 80mm since I can't hear it over the 120mm fans.

I am using a mini ninja and tried using both 120mm fans as intake. Using the fans as intake created a high pitched whine due to air turbulence. I have since reversed the 120mm fans to exhausts and added a 80mm nexus CPU fan. The 80mm fan blows toward the 120mm so all the fans are moving air in the s...

How To: P182 Top Fan Hood Acoustipack Mod

I didn't want to cover up the top fan hole on the P182 in case I wanted to mount a fan there in the future, so I modified the fan hood to shield some of the noise coming out of that fan hole. This takes 10 minutes and is complete reversible: 1. Remove the metal mesh from the black plastic frame. 2. ...

Antec Fusion v2 Silver Issues

I'm having the following issues with my fusion v2. If you have the same problems, you're not alone. 1. The PSU that came with the fusion v2 buzzed and whined terribly. I replaced it with a Seasonic S12II-380. Waiting for Antec to tell me how to connect the PSU to the 3-pin VFD power. The 3-pin VFD p...

How To: Using IR in VFD to power on/off (Antec Fusion v2)

Antec is not very good at providing detailed instructions so I thought I write this up. In order to use a remote to power on/off the Fusion v2 silver, you have to connect the black/white "power sw" wire to the VFD and the red/black "mobo/gnd" wire to the motherboard. The "power sw" comes out of the ...

You should only plug one or the other, not both.

I would use the 3-pin and plug that into the motherboard. Newer motherboards will measure the fan RPM and/or monitor your system temperature to increase or decrease your fan RPM accordingly.
