I just got in.... Mr. Evil I think you were on to something. In my BIOS I didn't have USB keyboard support enabled. I enabled that and did nothing else and now after the 15th try it looks like I have something usable. I am going to go to work in a little bit but it looks like after that I will be in...

yes, several other computers. The live CDs are designed to be both a trial version that can be run without changing anything on the hard drive, as well as a complete OS that can be installed from the CD. They are also handy for troubleshooting. I tried copies of Knoppix and Ubuntu, both of which I h...

EUREKA!----almost
I'm back, the guy that first asked about the Zalman cooler and then drilled four holes in his motherboard. Well it took me a few weeks but I went FROM: 1.3 Ghz CPU, 256 DDR RAM, Stock cpu cooler and PSU that sounded like planes taking off, Stock Maxtor 80 Gb Hd that sounded like dentist drill in dus...

Umm, yeah, I guess the holes were the problem. I got no beeps or nothing, no extra paste. When I am working on a car or the house or at work and I come across that sort of thing it is the right decision to use whats there, to make the modification. I guess I will do some shopping, and this time ask ...

The holes that I drilled: The stock cooler had a metal clip that went horizontally and attached to the plastic surrounding the CPU The Zalman cooler had brackets that lined up vertically above and below the CPU (when the case up upright) Above and below the CPU were metal circles that were not attac...

Yes, the CPU is a regular Athlon, not xp or any of the later ones. It is 1.3 GHz. I think those closed out at 1.4. Anyway, I tried to add a post to this last night but that didn't work out so good. Here is more info: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article102-page1.html[url] This is the article that g...

   I am the guy that wrote about the Zalman vs. Nexus fan. I received the Zalman fan today and put it in. While I had everything apart I read up on the pencil unlocking trick and decided to try it. That way I figured I could play with underclocking if it seemed necessary. Anyway, I p...

I got antsy and ordered the Zalman. I did more shopping and found that a Thermalright SI-97 with a nice quiet fan added plus fan controller is considered a pretty hot setup. But by the time I buy three separate parts I could have the Zalman and get set some aside for a quieter harddrive. Speaking of...

Oh yeah, the Nexus at end pc noise. its only 330 grams, 70 mm fan at 2400 rpm They say 19 dB. So, its lighter, its seems to like Nexus stuff is strongely regarded(?) but is smaller fan running twice as fast The Zalman has the little dial that I can turn all the way down slowing the 92 mm fan to 1350...

O.k, now that you guys see I'm here, let me explain more. This is what iI have done so far. I added a 512 mb RAm to the 256 that was in there. Then I took everything apart and put It back together in an Antec Sonata II. I didn' t think it got much quieter, so I shut it off and pulled the floppy driv...
