I haven't been keeping up to date with the latest cases. Is there a handful of cases that I need to add to the list, or is it getting to the point where there are many new 120mm models showing up often, and it would be pointless to try to keep up a list?

I've been doing this technique on multiple computers for over 3 years now. It simply works well. Temps are low, and the dust buildup is minimal. I clean out the computers only once per year (at most). Maybe it's because the volume of air moving through is less than the traditional techniques, maybe ...

Hehe yeah, :) It's the first thing to go. I don't even take a new case out of the box unless my tin snips are within arms reach!

As to the modders mesh, have you ever tried fireplace screen mesh? I've got some of that laying about from another project and was wondering how it effects airflow. No, I haven't tried that, but I know there are many good options that are much better than the factory bezel. The easier your computer...

Well for starters, the Sonata and BQE are NOT the best designed for air flow. They are better than the average case, but you'll notice the restrictive design for the hard drive cage due to them being positioned 90 degrees from normal. This design is not well thought out when it comes to airflow. The...

Please do not post new cases to add to the list unless it:

1. Is a mid tower case.
2. Has room for 120mm fans in front AND back
3. Is widely available for sale.

I will not add it to the list unless the above criteria is met. Thank you.

A spiral will give you the cleanest end result cut. There will be less bending of the edges if you spiral. Th U molding will cover alot. Just cut in a circle, and ignore everything else. The U molding will make it look sweet.

There's not much to it really. It's not as hard as you'd think. It generally takes me about a minute per hole. Since it already has holes, I find it's not necessary to do the spiral technique that is mentioned in the tin snip post. However, since it's your first time, I do suggest the spiral techniq...

In my experience with the low air resistance, low fan speed, low noise technique, it worked best with the side cover on. This directs the air flow properly. I don't think you'll be able to adopt this technique fully, but you can do a lot of it. In your situation, it sounds like you'll need to use a ...

The most quiet versions would be the FSP300-60PN and FSP350-60PN models. The FSP300-60PN(PF) and FSP350-60PN(PF) are louder. I think in the UK that PF is required by law. Pages 3-5 of this thread talk about the PF version in more detail.

It's a Fortron FSP350-PN. Sparkle is a subsidiary of Fortron. If you find the Sparkle version ( like here from newegg ) they are the same thing. They rock. They were the first to come up with the 120mm fan idea. I've noticed that Fortron will often sell their porducts to companies like Antec who wil...

My motherboard is an Aopen AK-86L. (I personally feel Aopen is better than Asus lately). In most systems, the heat pipes of the XP-120 are toward the ram side. On my setup, the heat pipes are toward the back plate. This moves the fan toward the front of the case giving plenty of room for all fans to...

All 120mm machine!

Today, I improved my modifed D8000 (based on the compucase LX-6A19) to include the new Thermalright XP-120 . Now this computer only has 4 fans, all of which are 120mm! It would take a LONG time if with a X-acto knife. The plastic has some really thick spots in certain areas. Using a X-acto knife would require a lot of downforce which might break the plastic, whereas a cutting disk does not.

I used a dremmel with a thin cutting disk. I simply drew a straight line, then used the dremmel to cut. Afterwards, I use a knife or file to clean up the edges. I also found that a hot glue gun works faster than GOOP to attach the mesh to the inside.

My beige LX-6A19 project is complete. http://laddergames.com/images/bmt/IMG_3416t.jpg It was an enjoyable 4 hours of modding.
