Re: Need a quiet PC case for i7 build, moderate OC

I'm also doing some video production, where the GPU comes into play. You don't think the Silverstone allows for better cooling wrt. overclocking the CPU either? Yes, it will likely run a bit cooler than a P183 or R3. Still having 3 180 fans (with no valid option for swapping them) + a 120 means it ...

Re: Need a quiet PC case for i7 build, moderate OC

The P280 is IMHO the worst choice listed. It was designed for ease-of-build, not silence. The P183 fixes many of the issues of the original P180 (especially lack of inlet cross-section) without reducing any of its sound reduction techniques. Thanks for confirming this :) I decided on the Silverston...

Re: Stock 2600k + Noctua NH-U9B SE2 = 60°C

60c at load is not bad at all and perfectly safe. It doesn`t seem too unusual considering the relatively small size of the cooler, the slow speed of the fan and lack of a case exhaust. The hyper 212 could lower your temps a little but I don`t think it`s worth the trouble as they are fine to begin w...

Re: Antec Solo II or Fractal Design Define R3

Out of the list you have, i would probably go with the Define R3, not sure how quiet is the Antec Neo Eco 520 + Coolermaster 212, so having it on the top with it open might be much more noticable on the Solo II than on the R3, with quieter PSU n heatsink, i would go with solo II. I used the Neo 520...

Re: Would this system build work?

With regards to the PSU and case heat buildup, I believe that the Solo II is ideal for a fanlees setup as it has a top vent to allow heat from the PSU to escape not affecting other components. Having 2 front fans even at low speed may help push heat out by creating positive pressure inside the case....

Re: DAW - Sandy Bridge i7 2600K - in a new Antec P-150!

Why a P150 and not something like a P280 or R3? If this is for music production you want as little noise as possible and you're using 92mm fans for intake when you could be using 120's and there's no sound dampening material in there. I don't count the P150's vinyl sheets as doing anything but look...

Re: Build: Lian Li PC-X2000F, Silverstone FT02, or Antec P28

I REALLY like the design of the X2000F. If there is a case on your list that would make it as a 10 year buy I would say the Lia Li is the one. It has the latest features such as USB 3.0, and the only issue may be whether the 140mm fans will be quiet enough when turned down to 800 rpm with the in-bu...

There is no good or bad bearing, though fluid fans typically last longer, and it's a known fact that sleeve are NOT suited for horizontal mounting. I have a few fluid bearing fans in use, including Galacialtech and Arctic cooling all of which are as quiet as they were on day 1. Most PSU fans are bal...

SNB is fast but how a people perceive the speed increase is all depending on what they do. For office and HTPC tasks, speed increase that you may see in benchmarks (if you read some of the test details) is time accumulated by automatically performing many task - not your typical human work flow. eg....

Thanks for the review. SPCR and other review sites have all struggled to find some task that AMD FX is good at. I've kept the HDD cage in place. Otherwise you cannot load more than 3 hard drives. After replacing the fans, and still a temp of...

Your temps seem fine.
Idle temps might be a few degree higher than avarage but still within the sample variance of i7 9xx. Temps should get lower over time (~2 weeks) of applying th MX. I'm using MX-1 on an i7 2600K and idle temps dropped about 5 degree withing a few weeks.

Re: Fractal Design Define R3 ATX Tower

I just installed a 140mm fan in the top of my R3 case (blowing air IN) but the fan noise is very annoying. This is not due to it being a loud fan (it is no, completely silent) but seems to be caused by the grill pattern at the top. When I place my hand over it (or a very thin paper handkerchief), i...

Looks good to me. Swap the Solo's exhaust fan to keep noise levels down to minimum. Slipstream 800 or similar slow fan will work

The 400 FL is better choice and more efficient than the S12.

Now that it's out, it seems not as bad as it could have been. Top vent and removable bar make it better. Re: P183 - dampening the front door

Why is there so much noise comming from that bottom vent? Maybe the fan is too loud / too fast , maybe a noisy HDD? If some thin foam can't absorb it, I don't see a way to block the vent for sound without blocking it for air that is needed to cool the HDDs and PSU.

NH-P12 is a really good fan for CPU coolers. Use the resistor cable that comes with the fan to lower ts speed. If you already own this fan it would be a shame not to use it, more so if you need to spend money on a new fan. If you must have a Scythe fan you can get a Slipstream 1200 or 800RPM. The 12...

Hi, and welcome to SPCR You didn't mention of 2 key elements: Case and PSU. Its is loud case fans and crappy PSU that make a system noisy and inefficient (hotter or more power hungry or both).
