Re: hyper-v recommendation

Im planning to build a server for home use running Hyper-V with a couple of hosts. Did you have any trouble setting up hyper-v or would you recommend your cpu + mb combo for this? I had no issues setting it up. Just remember that Intels cheaper CPUs don't always have hardware virtualization (neithe...

When I bought the ECC RAM for my server it cost almost exactly the same as non-ECC.

These could well be competitive with the C2D 45nm quads, i doubt they'll be a match for the i7's, but then they are in a completely difference price range. You can take one of these phenoms and slot it into a £50 mobo with cheap DDR2 ram if you wanted. Good news for people with AM2+ boards who fan...

Quad core CPU:s at 2.3-2.7GHz with a TDP of 55W? Sounds great to me:) Oh, and I found this slightly amusing, though:) Note: The line for Harpertown four DIMMs is dotted in the above graphs because we did not actually run this configuration but speculate this is the power consumption based on idle p...

Yeah, AMD has done a good job so far. But I strongly doubt, that an Phenom X4 920 will be even close to the Core i7 920 in terms of performance. Perhaps in watts, lol, but not in computing power. Yeah, uh... AMD's got a little ground to make up. Even if you ignore clockspeed, the 9950 is abou...

It is just as much confusing as Intel using 9xx for i7 (Pentium D anyone?).

You also have to remember that 95w TDP includes the memory controller which was typically on the northbridge. Which is on par with current Core 2 Duo's if you add in the power dissipation of the memory controller currently residing on the northbridge. This is what people usually forget when they co...

I'd like to see some pics of everyone's (silent) computers in their (silent!) workstation environments. Mostly for inspiration, I suppose. Unfortunately as a college student with only a laptop, I don't have any pics to post at the moment. Perhaps someone else could start us off with some pictures? ...

The power draw is at idle (what it mostly is), but I want to be sure the PSU can still handle full load if I decide to do something that needs the power.

Or the hard disk. Seagate and silence don't really go together.
The hard disk goes into standby when idle = silent.

That's a PC Power&Cooling 750w PSU, right? How does the fan sound to you on it? That is correct. Well, it is not completely silent, but it is quieter than the GTX260 so it does not matter that much. I can hear the fan if I stop the fan on the graphics card, but the noise it makes is not at all irri...

P182. Again.

Nothing special compared to my previous build , so just a single pic of the new setup. Really didn't get the HD4870 adjusted to my liking (the constant change of rpm just did not suit me) so changed that to a GTX260 along with the mobo for a Asus P5N-T Deluxe and CPU to an Intel Xeon X3220. Cabling ...
