Something I would suggest is making the USB ports on the front farther apart. With so little room between them, if I already have a cable connected in one port, I can't plug in anything wide (like some flash drives) in the other port. Adding about a half inch or so of extra space between ports would...

Oh, I forgot about this. Disregard my post above.

The power supply was fine. The problem was eventually traced to a bad stick of RAM.

I wonder if this is related to my Corsair 520hx crapping out after about six months of use. About a month or so ago, the system started not coming back from a suspended state. I would see the DVD drive's light come on, and if I got close to it I could hear it trying to start up, but it would stop. A...

A few more observations: The BIOS is not detecting my drives - sorta. In the "Standard CMOS Features" section anyway, when I installed a new drive (which replaced the previous one), it's not detecting any of the drives including the DVD-ROM. However, when I go to the section with the boot order, the...

I'll tell you what, there is no point in buying an expensive X-Fi sound card if all you will be doing is sending the Dolby Digital/DTS digital bitstreams as S/PDIF from the computer to a receiver. Most basic cards (or even onboard sound) can do that, and the quality will be the same. The X-Fi is for...

Here's a really good article on the issue: http://www.dansdata.com/askdan00015.htm I'm still a bit confused though, as I haven't seen anything in the BIOS of my GA-P35-DS3P board about memory remapping. I'm using Vista 64-bit, which shows 4093 MB of memory in Task Manager. I suppose that means I'm u...

Nearly all HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles are 1080p. The only exceptions that I know of are the Chronos HD DVD which I believe is 1080i, a few 1080i Discovery titles, and a few porn titles that are 720p. Now, there were a handful of earlier Warner titles that were sourced from 1080i masters but they...

I'm having difficulty deciding between the gigabyte mobos DS3R and DS3P. Besides the difference in Firewire and the PCI ports, is there a reason the DS3P is more suited to quad-core with non-extreme overclock, eg 3.0-3.4? Your thoughts are appreciated! The DS3P also has Dual BIOS, which will copy a...

So how did it go? I got my DS3P up and running a few days ago and it's been working fine. I have the e6750 overclocked to 3.2 Ghz (400x8). So far the only tweak I've done is lower the CPU voltage to the upper end of the recommended voltage for the chip. The board had it set higher. I have not adjust...

Big thanks to SPCR!

While I have been building computers for years, I've never really taken silence seriously until now. I wanted something kind of quiet a few years ago and made the mistake of getting the Aria case (which was a bitch to work with) and pairing it with a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz. Even with a Zalman HSF and a re...

Some of those are revisions of a particular board, with some boards having 3 versions. The BIOS and driver files are the same for different versions of the same board, but the manuals are updated to reflect the changes. The new revisions replace the earlier ones, so it's not as if they actually have...

Has anyone mounted this (with the fan) on one of the Gigabyte P35 boards? I want to order this, but I'm afraid the RAM is going to get in the way of the fan. I really don't want to give up the extra slots.

The memory is Crucial Ballistix which is 30mm in height.

I'll try to answer what I can. About the BIOS: 1. Set the DVD drive as the first boot device if you're installing Windows, with your primary hard drive (where the OS will go) as the second. This way, the Windows setup DVD will boot for the initial setup, and when it reboots it can still boot to the ...

It's a second, backup BIOS in case the first gets corrupted or fails to boot (quad being 3 extra, I suppose). It would come in handy in case of a bad flash.

I'd imagine that they include the Parallel break-out cable with the board, and since there is a header on the motherboard, this wouldn't take up another PCI slot. What he means is that the breakout board still takes up a "slot" even though there's no card to plug in. It occupies a space where anoth...
