Re: CPU/Motherboard + Build Advice?

You seem to be trying to spend they least you can on the build, so for this im going to suggest against going with PWM fans Not quite. For the mobo and CPU, I am being more price-conscious, since I'm not paying for them. But I'm willing to spend money out of my pocket for everything else. I'd figur...

Re: CPU/Motherboard + Build Advice?

Case: Define R4 PSU: SeaSonic X-650 (already have) Really good components, what case fans are you planning on using? I was going to listen to the R4's fans to see if I like them. Otherwise, I'm leaning toward either the Noiseblocker M12-S2 or the Scythe GT120-12. Why Z87 boards? are you overclockin...

CPU/Motherboard + Build Advice?

Hello! I was wondering if anyone might be willing to give me some suggestions on a build I was hoping to start soon. (current comp keep turning itself back on after shutting down) In particular, I'm not really sure which direction to go with the motherboard. While I'm not looking at super extravagan...

Just wondering if anyone's tried to fit this on a 4800-series card while using an Accelero S1 rev. 2. It seems to be too tall according to the S1's height restriction drawing that Arctic Cooling has on its website, but maybe it'll fit between the fins?

Fan Recs for an Overclocker?

My friend just got a P182 to replace his old "jet engine" case and is a pretty big fan of it. However, he feels that the included intake/exhaust TriCools are too loud (big surprise), so he's looking for some quieter fans. Here's the caveat, though: He has a Q9650 and a 4870, both overclocked (though...

4870 + Aftermarket Cooler

Hopefully I haven't missed a thread that will answer my questions. Anyway, I have one of the original 4870s, and I was trying to figure out how to silence it since the fan's easily the loudest component on my comp. I don't have plans for CrossFire, so I was considering an Accelero S1 Rev. 2, but a l...

P45 Motherboards

I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard to a P45 to support a new CPU, but I'm not sure which motherboards seem decent for my usage. At the moment, I'm looking at a Gigabyte DS4/DS4P and waiting for the Abit IP45 Pro. Do you guys have suggestions as to which one to lean toward, or even others to consi...

Single-Slot 8600GT Cooler

One of my roommates got an 8600GT not too long ago to replace a dead 6800 (or something along those lines). It works wonderfully, except for the fact that the stock fan runs like a jet engine. So I was looking to suggest aftermarket coolers, but he run it in a 350W PSU Shuttle SFF comp with an Audig...

Sorry I've been away for a while; school started. So another question's popped up. Is there a significant difference between the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R ($129.99) and the -DS4 ($186.99), assuming both are Rev. 2? The only major things I see are the addition of Firewire and losing a PCI slot for a PCIx ...

I'm currently using round cables for my IDE drives and they haven't disappointed me yet. But I do intend to spend a good deal of time rewiring stuff. I'm thinking of throwing a HR-05 ILX on in addition to the Ultima-90. Might bump the front intake up to the F model (1600 RPM) in case it gets a bit h...

More P35 Goodness!

I'm currently looking for a midrange (read US$150-200) mobo that'll support a Yorkfield processor - trying to "futureproof" a little - in a P182. I'm not going to use SLI, but eSATA is a consideration for me. Probably will OC to 3GHz or so, so overclocking isn't too big a concern. Don't need legacy....

I do intend to eventually replace the Plextor. It's not a high priority at the moment, though, even with the airflow. I figured that the P182 has enough room and airflow channeling that I can live with it for a few more months. And 30W, I don't think will be a big deal. None of the min. power calcul...

As far as I can tell, there's at least one without a Northbridge fan, and that's the Striker Extreme...for $300. The price and 3x PCIe slots (over x1, that is) are major turn offs. Admittedly, I'm probably biased towards Asus and MSI because they're Taiwanese brands and those brands were the ones I ...

Updated Proposal

Bought the Corsair 520HX and will probably get a 2x1GB Corsair XMS2 pack once I get back to the States. Does anyone know much about 680i versus P35? Most of the recommended mobos in the mobo forum are P35-based and none are 680i-based, as far as I checked. I'm wondering if the Asus Striker Extreme w...

I guess what I was a little more concerned about originally was dust coming in from the back and top, but it's a moot point now that I think about it, since I was going to use those as exhaust, anyway. As for the CPU, since the new Q6600's out, does that make it worth the slight price hike compared ...

Antec P182 and Other Build Considerations

Hello all! I've lurked around the last couple days trying to figure out parts that I should think about upgrading to. As the computer that I use at school's four years old (and older tech still since I opted to get cheaper parts), I figured it was time for a long-term upgrade over the next couple mo...
