So, for the purposes of cool and quiet, modern 2D cards, the 2400XT should be quieter. Although, if you want HD encoding (i dont) then the 3450 looks pretty impressive and inexpensive.

I wish there were cooler standard sized parts out there available for the individual consumer. seems like everything in market is maxed out for gamers and hard core users, thus driving heat up. If you notice, the current technology of desktop chips are higher clocked versions of their laptop counter...

Why are new cheapo Dells so quiet?

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this, but both my work and school have both purchased a bunch of new small desktops and mid-towers from Dell. Usually I hate the computers they get, but I have to admit that I am impressed with these new ones. They are amzingly quiet and swift. Some of them are v...

How would the HD 3450 256mb card fit into the scheme of things, as far as heat goes? I would specifically love to see the numbers for that card, and to know if it gets hotter than teh HD 2400XT when doing normal 2D stuff (photoshop). I just want a snappy little card that is the coolest card possible...

Thanks Yamaha. They accept PayPal so I went ahead and ordered the TRUE with the lapping service + a Scythe 800rpm fan. I love the Scythe S-flexes that I currently have as case fans. I'll report my experience on this forum with pics as soon as I get everything assembled. (which may take a little whil...

Yamaha, thanks for the information both here and in PM. Seems like youve got it figured out. I think I am leaning towards the TRUE now, as it should fit my gigabit X38 board better, and will be more secure. The case I have is an Antec , I'm not sure the model #. I think SLK-3700 or something like th...

Ninja vs. TRUE base lapping - quality control?

Im trying to decide between Scythe Ninja and the Thermalright Ultra 120. Plenty of discussion about the pro's and cons of each however.. I'd be interested to hear your experiences with how well the bases of these heatsinks are lapped or if one brand tends to have more warped bases than the other. I'...

Use an external DVD duplicator case for eSATA hard drives?

I was looking to having an external case to house my SATA hard drives, and so far the best solution I can find is the Icy Dock eSATA MB561S. However, the drawback is that the fan that is built into it's internal power supply is NOISY. This seems to be a common problem with these prebuilt ready-to-go...
