Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version

Just bought the R5 tonight from newegg, they have it on sale for only $89 right now if anyone is interested. Going to post a build log once I decide which Z170 mobo I'm going to pair up with a 6700k. :D

Video Editing/Gaming/HTPC All-in-1: Input Welcomed!

Hi SPCR folks, been a while since I've posted here, but it is time for a new build. I started a thread over at the [H]ard Forums and tried to copy and paste it here, but the formatting got all messed up. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1880637 If you could just read through what I posted there...

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll put it on the shortlist of things to try. I disconnected the hardrive until further notice such that no further (if any) sectors will be written over. I didn't format, so in theory, the data should all be there is my *hope*.

Foulup: Recover Previous NTFS Partition in Vista?

Okay, I've fouled up. I was installing Windows XP in anticipation of my upgrade to Vista 64 and then I made one of the most boneheaded mistakes to date in regards to computers. My previous SATA RAID array was the same size as my IDE hardrive (used for backups). After going through the blue prompt sc...

Antec Solution Series Quiet Computing Gaming/Work Rig

I'm sorry to see we can't post really large images here in the gallery, but for those who are interested, I'm keeping a work log at Hardforum: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1217452 I'd shrink the images, but I don't have Photoshop here on the laptop. That is true how sometimes issues can be blown out of proportion to their actual conditions. It is just one of those things where you don't want to shell out bucu bucks to MS if the product isn't up to snuff. Hopefully everything will be pulled off smoothly.

That's a great case from what I've heard, so hopefully everything is going to work out just fine. I'm curious, as a fellow 8800 GTS owner, how exactly did you fabricate the shroud for the card? I had an old True Power 430 that blew up in a pile of arcing flames inside my rig. I sent them the unit and during the transit time they mailed out a completely new one, not some remanufactured one. RAM is so cheap these days that I couldn't help but getting 4gigs of DD2. As I"m sure you're aware, 32-bit systems won't cut the mustard with high quantities of memory. Thanks for the link. It will be bookmarked once Vista *hopefully* boots up. :)

Kill all power to a PCI-e Graphics Card?

The computer in question has two primary modes: Mode A: (Working with web development, games, schoolwork) Mode B: (Downloading/uploading files overnight, moving files on a local network) Mode A actually requires a video feed to see what you're doing (kind of hard to play games while blind!) while Mo...

8800 GTS/Vista 64: Use Nvidia or after-market drivers?

I'm going to be making the delve very shortly to Vista 64. There are always those that swear by vendor supplied drivers and those who prefer after-market ones like Omega drivers. For those of you who have used Vista 64 and have Nvidia cards, which do you prefer? The standard Nvidia ones or after-mar...

The area in which I live has very good power overall. For the most part it might be years between blackouts and only once or twice during the summer time did we have a brownout. Still, considering the cost of the other components in the machine perhaps an UPS is the way to go. Does SPCR have a shoot...

Is that lack of getting the extra 25% to make it 100% due to the extra struggle in setting the thing up, or because of sub-standard cooling performance?
