That thing uses a LOT more power than an 8800GT. I think you should try it with your old PSU first, run a stress-test or two, and if it works, leave it at that.

PSUs aren't that expensive though, in Europe, the Corsair HX520 costs only 90 euros. That's not too bad.

M-RHS88 would probably be a bit better though (designed for 8800 series), but also way more expensive.
Alright. I added the RHS1 to my shopping cart, it was in stock anyway. 6 euros, so even if I won't use it, I won't really care.

The 8800GT has poor availability.

For PSU's, there's the great Corsair line, well-respected on here and modular. HX520 and HX5(something) from the top of my head. They're customised rebrands of Seasonic PSU's, combining the modularity and the silent fan from one seris and another. Disk intensive work? Have you considered adding anot...

If you're going to use the S1, you also need to buy heatsinks (Zalman has a package which includes all the ones needed) to put on the memory / mosfets. As for the rest, if you get your Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme before i do (just ordered it as well :) ) let me know how it's working out. I'm uns...

Instead of worrying about the stock cooler noise, just use an arctic cooling Accelero S-1 and run it passive or mount a slow running fan to it- problem solved. Can you get a silent gaming pc? Well, maybe not silent, but very quiet. Kinda depends on your budget and resolution/quality settings you wa...

It may be worth waiting for that new cooler indeed, looks great, however make sure you buy it from a company which moves a lot of them, as they are often and regularly resupplied, thus (most often) ensuring the latest revisions. Still, using an aftermarket cooler will most likely yield far better r...

I have a pair of 8800GTs in an Antec P180 case. The fans are LOUD at full speed, but as previous posts have said, they don't ramp up to full speed under normal circumstances. They aren't silent by any means, but my whole rig is quiet (apart from the raptors!). I'm running an E6600 overclocked to 3....

Re: Gaming. Silence. Do they mix?

Oh, wow. That's awesome! How is the sound when the 8800GT is idle or not doing much if anything at all? It's quite acceptable, I have mine ducted and my case dampened at the moment and i sleep at 2m away, not hearing my PC at all at night. It is right next to my desk and when i'm sitting behind it ...

stuff quote Oh, wow. That's awesome! How is the sound when the 8800GT is idle or not doing much if anything at all?I'm not that concerned about the sound during games, because the games themselves will have more sound. Still, I'd like to know if it's acceptable. Also nice if the fact that I'll be p...

The 8800gt is not silent by any means. It's a single slot cooler trying to do a double-slot job. At 30% it isn't bad, but at 100% the fan has been measured as high as 73 dB (an inch away from the fan). It is 4 times louder (12 dB) than the 3870 cooler, which is not silent at any point, but not too ...

For a gaming system, I'd rather get the E6750 than the Q6600 for now, and oc the E6750 a bit (you could hit 3.2-3.4GHz easily with the TRUE cooler). My personal opinion is that whatever amount of HD space you have, it will eventually be used... Disagreed in my case. You see, the small improvement t...

Most decent motherboards will offer fan control from the bios/speedfan with 3-8 headers controllable, this is alot better than putting in alot of fanmates. The TRUE is -not- overkill for a Q6600, it just means you will get away with lower fan speeds for stock speed operation :) I would really recom...

Gaming. Silence. Do they mix?

First of all, I finally have the money to purchase a decent PC! Woo! Hoo! Now, for parts, I'm thinking heavily of these: - Q6600 - 8800 GT - 4 gigs of PC6400 cas 5 - Samsung 166 (320 or 400 gigs) - nVidia 650i SLI These components aren't exactly the least powerful available. That's the basic problem...

If you use Vista, yes, try to get another GB of RAM. Otherwise, it's not neccesary. Yet.

Silencing a (Antec) Titan?

I want to know how, on a Sonata - P182 scale, how the Antec Titan 650 rates. You see, it's cheaper than the P182 and a good psu, yet bigger than, well, both of them. Can I get it, without heavy modding, to be virtually as silent as a 182? I'm going to be cooling a Q6600 and a 8800 series or possible...
