How noisy are these Intel SSD's ?
I read somewhere some SSD's have small fans on-board. I find it really strange that while we're in "Silent Storage" forum, nobody even mentions this..

why does your system require two power supplies? Why does your system require power? I'm only asking because it seems extremely overkill unless you're going the multi-GPU + overclocking route. Actually, you're very wrong about that. Most PSU's are the most effective when under reasonably lower load...

Best CPU cooling / heatsink for GA-X48T-DQ6

Does anyone have experience using the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU-heatsink on a GA-X48T-DQ6 board? They don't have a 'Motherboard compatibility' listing on their site, so I just don't know. I've been searching hard all over the web for the most silent cooling method for my Gigabyte X48T board. It seems m...

3. You still need to make backups of important data. Any drive can fail without warning. Actually that's not entirely true for most SSD's on sale today. They will *all* begin failing at write, and still alow reading off of them. And most SSD's will tell you when they're starting to fail, i.e. let y...

That might be because some people overclock! I've once seen my system's total power-usage rise 33% using a couple of basic overlock settings in the BIOS. And I'm by no means specialized in overclocking, so I did not dare use excessive numbers. By the way, why doesn't anyone mention the option to use...

Re: What is your favorite MP3 encoder?

I might be in the "nobody" category, but I can definately tell the difference between 320 and flac. Sorry but that is simply a lie. It has been proven time and again, using blind tests, that even high-end listeners, classical music freaks, cannot pick the original when using LAME 3.97/3.98 starting...

I too am in Europe :) I think a lot of it boils down to what you consider "quiet". Mine are not by any means loud, just not as quiet as the KS. Since calibrated low level sound meters are so expensive, it's very hard for people on SPCR's forums to make accurate comparisons with each other. Well, I'...

That was pretty much my experience with the AAKS. It's fast but idle whoosh is relatively loud, much louder than the KS. I thought it was a fan making the noise at first actually. That's exactly what it sounds like - a quiet but not silent fan. Still this is really strange, because mine are 3 (yes ...

The KS is quieter.
Do you have any actual valid sources? I'd like to see the difference tested, because I don't take anyone's word on the internet as truth.

just installed mine. It's formatting right now, hopefully it will be done before I go to bed. Next time pick a Quick format. Formatting 500 GB of a new drive is ridiculous. You might as well run an actual surface test later on instead when you feel like it (and continue working on the PC). By the w...

On the other hand, if you still prefer going horizontal, it's easy to use clothing elastic to suspend 3 iHDDs n the bottom cage. Someone did it and posted pics in the forums recently. Do you have a link to that thread also? I can't find it. Well obviously, no response here.. and what "clothing elas...

Simply not true. Your observations may be valid for older drives, but FDB bearing HDDs manufactured in the last few years have NO issues whatsoever with mounting position. Major HDD makers post such info on their websites today. This has been discussed ad nauseum in numerous forum threads, the bigg...

And why do the Antec HD bays force you to position them vertically? From my own thorough 25 years of computer experience I have found (and clearly noticed) the first thing NOT to do with a harddisk is to put it vertically. And I've noticed the same in my 6+ years system administrating job at a comme...
