Re: Quiet SFF build
looks good, only suggestion would be to clean up the cables with some kind of ties and bundling them so that they don't run all over the place

we have a couple of 5150s in the office I work at, and both lost their hard drives, according to the onboard diagnostics, they were replaced by Dell under warranty, but it was disturbing since it was such a short time. you could use fans plugged directly in the power supply's molex plugs, 5v through...

I would not use a picopsu with the athlon XP series according to the experience I had with this combination: the XP series PSU draws a lot on the 5V rail, and anything above idle with cause the PC to crash. My 5v line at idle was down to 4.7V! So even though overall wattage consumption does not exce...

Since I build this computer to be my main rig, I will use the old one to make an HTPC. It is housed in a convertible mid tower, I just ordered some smoked acrylic in order to make a new front face for the old case. I am thinking flat black paint for the panels. I will post that build later probably ...

Shot of the insde I don;t have a window so I did not do too much with cabling. I may sleeve the wires when I get some time http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc40/dpw780/IMG_0386.jpg I may add a fan next to the hard drive cage, just for insurance. Rear fan is a Panaflo 92mm, with a fanmate, sorry i...

Budget builds (recycled HP cases) 56k warning
Here is my latest build. I am using an HP XW4200 case. For people who know this case is from the HP business line, the CAD people use this workstation a lot. I bought an empty used one from Ebay for about 40 bucks. It is well made, all steel, and has a clean front design with lots of ventilation. Li...

US$55 shipped in the US PW-200-M bought new. I cut the power leads to connect it to an ATX molex connector so that I c...

Bluefront is correct, it seems like only the Athlon XP and earlier Pentium chips load up the 5v rail; according to what I have read, if you do not need the 4 pin P4 connector for the motherboard, then the chip is using the 5v line. Later AMDs such as my brisbane need the P4 connector, and my main co...
