Please, please critique my LGA775 build

This machine will not be used for gaming. I intend to turn it into a HTPC after I get it up and running smooth. ---------------------------- ( Parts I already have ) Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13Ghz, 1066FSB, 2MB L2 cache $199.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16...

I thought about going that route, but video standards are in a state of transition.

I would like to be able to switch to HDMI, DVI, or whatever in a couple of years when the High Definition formats get settled down.

I'm in a similar situation. I want the "sweet spot" video card for a Tivo-like box that will run 24/7. It gets HOT where I live, so I need low electricity consumption. I don't want to add to the cooling requirements my house already has. Where is the real sweet spot for A/V performance versus energy...

Video standards are in a state of transition.

If you bought a motherboard without on-board video, you could easily change the video card as the standards change.

What are the power requirements of those cards?

More power equals more heat which equals more expensive utility bills.

I'll start paying higher taxes to some government for the purpose "combating climate change" when they tell me what the correct temperature of the earth is supposed to be.

Until then, they need to keep their hands out of my pocket.

+1 on the small air compressor. I have one in my garage. I bought it for $40 from an out-of-work roofer. He used it to run his nail gun. Gigabyte P35 DS3P - Too much for me?

I'm trying to build a system for my daughter to edit videos, and perhaps work as a Mythbuntu box. I already have a Core2Duo E6400. This box will never be used for gaming, be overclocked, be memory or processor upgraded, or have a RAID array. The catch is I want Firewire. Is the Gigabyte P35 DS3P too...

When you say "functionally identical" do you mean it's just a re-branded Seasonic?

It is my opinion that the "future-proofing" concept promoted by the IT media is a scam designed to please their advertisers.
