Then why bother? Video playback works just great with the on-chipset graphics solutions. It depends how much of a purist you are. Video will look better (colors, deinterlacing etc) through a dedicated graphics card than the on-board ones. In fact, for HTPC I would go for a mobo withough graphics on...

Wikipedia has power consumption measurements (I expect this is at idle).

Example - the nvidia 85/8600 range:

probably a bit on the favourable side.

Seagates have supported AAM in the last few revs of their HD's as far as I am aware.

Is it a beta release of speedfan or the BIOS?

And it's supposed to fix fan sw control with this board?

I don't suppose you know if you can control all fan speeds through the bios?

Just to bump this thread....

So is the conclusion that a p35-dq6 has only two software controllable fan headers?

You haven't got any more than that working?

I was under the impression it did a bit more than that... :(

I have 4 fans dammit!

Thanks guys, that's really helpful.

I'm getting quite interested in this case:

Seems to be as good, if not better than other similar ones.

HTPC stock case fans

Hi folks, While browsing for HTPC cases, I have noticed that a lot of HTPC case manufacturers ship their cases with fans that they claim to be very quiet - the entire set of cases from Thermaltake are a good example. The Mozart Thermaltake case for example: http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Chassis...

GA-P35-DQ6 fan header control

Hi folks, Thanks to the many helpful people who have been answering my questions - I have arrived at the conclusion that this gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 board is a good way to go, however I have (yet another) bunch of questions that hopefully someone who knows this board can answer... I have read here, tha...

Thanks cmthomson, that's very helpful. I can definitely see that a lot of the mid-range boards seem to only control one fan - the cpu fan. That's annoying. It means more money is required. :) When I read about fans, I see that some fans are called "PWM" fans - what does that actually mean? I thought...

How can I tell what fans on any given mobo support speedfan?

Hi folks, apologies if this is a n00b question - but how do you tell? Some more questions: I understand PWM, that's fine, does this necessarily directly translate into being able to use speedfan? Typically when you set PWM in a bios, does it allow you to dynamically increase fan speed as temp goes u...

Help me select a passive cooled nvidia 8500/600 card.

Hi Folks, I am building a HTPC, (with the occasional bit of gaming) and I am interested in getting either a nvidia 8500/8600... passively cooled, because I want it quiet. Now, I can't seem to find any good comparisons/discussions about these cards, (stickies seem a bit out of date, and google is not...

Motherboards that have core2duo mobile processor support

Hi Folks, New to the boards, but I've been reading for a bit, and I have some questions. Firstly - I am interested in building a very quiet HTPC, and I've thought it might be a good idea to get a motherboard that supports a mobile processor. I started searching around for information on good motherb...
