Re: PicoPSU systems shuts off unexpectedly

I have a hunch that it's the GPU pulling too much power on its rail but I'm not going to spend the time digging into that. I finally replaced the power brick, the one I purchased (this time through eBay) is a newer revision. Here's the details. Old one is on the right (A01): http://i.imgur.com/NzqKw...

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

You are correct for mini itx mobos, depends on the socket, but i was refering that you were planning on using on a desktop motherboard, maybe i didn't understand it correctly. Ah, I see what you meant. I'm a SFF nut so all my stuff is mini itx :) I'm considering building a gaming machine in a year ...

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

In the first photo I posted it blocks the pcie slot, that's why I got the riser cable :) It depends on the orientation though, Since I'm putting the desktop in the PCQ08 I could rotate and have it exhaust upwards which should work.

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

Yep, these temperatures are pretty stable. With the HR02 since I didn't have a fan the temperature would rise rapidly under load. When I was doing heavy downloading/transcoding the temperature rose up to 58 fairly quickly. I'm not sure what I'll do with the HR02, I don't think I can put it on my des...

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

Should have mentioned the CPU, it's a i3-3220T. Here's the idle temp compared with the HR02: NH-U12S CPU: ~30C HDD: ~30C HR02 CPU: ~40C HDD: ~34C (low 30, high 37) hard drive temperature varied a bit due to how many disks are in there. I considered adding some ducts in there but I need to vent the s...

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

Went with the NH-U12S and I'm pretty happy with the decision, as you can see it's significantly smaller. http://i.imgur.com/rdaaPkGl.jpg I should have taken a picture of the HR02 in the case, but just imagine all the space around the heatsink taken up. http://i.imgur.com/dOKCUAhl.jpg I'm running it ...

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

Took the heatsinks off today, pretty sure it was just double-stick tape as the pads were way too thick to be thermal. Flipped the hr-02 around and a case fan fits with it! New problem, need right-angle sata and power cables as they drives behind the heatsink don't fit with the cables attached. I act...

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

I took a look at removing them but I'm not sure how to go about it. Are they adhered with thermal pads or adhesive? Will I need to replace the heatsinks?

Edit: Searched around and did some reading, I'll try this soon.

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

In the current orientation the fan doesn't fit due to the memory, if I rotate it 180 the heatsink doesn't fit due to the memory :(

In any orientation the tall memory heatsinks gets in the way, the current setup is the best option :/

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

My final selections were poorly made: Node 304 Pros: Very compact and efficient with the space Cons: Only six disks, had to suspend the 2.5" disk to fit everything. Need to get shorter SATA cables and consider a modular PSU, cables screw with airflow. I had been using the stock Intel heatsink for aw...

Re: FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

Excellent suggestions, I saw the PC-Q25 but shied away because of the quick clip side panels. I'll go back and look again though as the hot swap is very attractive. My main gripe when it comes to the PC-Q series is that the PSU sits right over the motherboard and make cable management very difficult...

FedEX damaged my ITX case, time for a new one

I moved out to Germany last month and had my file server/desktop shipped separately, had FedEX package it which may have been a bad decision. When it arrived the file server case was partially buckled at the bottom, filed a claim and they wrote me a check (rather my friend who shipped it) for $119.9...

Re: PicoPSU systems shuts off unexpectedly

Probably not GPU related, I ran a GPU stress test for 1 1/2 hours without any issues, GPU got up to 62C without any sudden shutoffs.

Re: PicoPSU systems shuts off unexpectedly

I thought it was a bit high too, that measurement was taken with the system running. When powered off I measured ~15.8V coming from the DA2. All measurements were done at the PicoPSU. I'm wondering if it's GPU related, I know firefox uses hardware acceleration and the unexpected shutoffs tend to occ...

Re: PicoPSU systems shuts off unexpectedly

How about you run a memtest, some benchmarks and monitor the temperatures? That should help diagnose the problem. I ran prime95 for 30 minutes and watched the temp, no lock ups or weird behaviors. Have you checked your 12V rail? If you have a multimeter, measure the voltages during idle/load on a m...

PicoPSU systems shuts off unexpectedly

Hey Everyone, I've been having an issue that popped up last May that seems to be getting worse. Here's my System: CPU: i5-2400 Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-H67N-USB3-B3 GPU: AMD 7750 PSU: PicoPSU 160W with Dell DA-2 Case: MI-100 It originally started with the Diablo 3 release, while playing the game the system...

Thin cooler for 7750

Hey Guys, I'm looking to replace the cooler on my XFX 7750 card as it's the loudest component in my system. I've got a very tight space to work with though so most coolers simply won't work as they're too big. Are there any thin coolers that would work as a replacement? They can't be thicker than ~3...

Re: GTX 650 vs HD 7770 vs HD 7750

I have the 7750 and it handles current games very well even at resolutions above 1440x900. I picked it as I need a graphics card that doesn't require external power and from research the x750 series from AMD have the best performance.

How big a difference in height is there between the graphics card and heatsink+fan? I'm looking at heatsinks and the Samuel 17 might be the one for me.

Re: home linux server

There are a few choices for mini-itx cases. There's the Lian Li PC-Q08 and if you want something smaller the Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced . I've been using the PC-Q08 for my file server for a couple years and it works great, I have 6 hard drives in there in addition to a small 2.5" drive mounted...

Thanks for the link, that does look really good but I would need at least quad-core :(

I think the minimum specs would be Quad-Core, 16GB ram, and with wireless/expansion slot.

SFF Barebones with server hardware?

At my office my team is developing a hardware appliance for our trainers to use for demos, the trouble at the moment is that the appliance is currently a 2U server which complicates things a bit (primarily delivery/transportation). I'm curious if there exists a SFF or small-ish computer that is easy...

Re: Need MicroATX case for a silent audio build

Thanks for the recommendation Mike! I'm mostly worried about case vibration from the hard drives as that's always been my problem when going with a generic case. Since there are so few components would there be any real benefit to putting a fan up front with the solo 2?

Interesting, I wasn't aware I could do that in Win7. As soon as I get the pre-order refunded I'll get the 2400.
