Thanks, Mike. That turntable is lovely, but 19kg - wow!
I look forward to the next article.

Re: HTPC Keyboard

I have the Logitech diNova mini and it has been nothing but a hassle. I have been very disatisfied with it. I have found that it loses connection easily and will not re-sync without removing the battery from the base, replugging in the dongle, etc. When it does work the size is fine and the controls...

The Big Shuriken is compatible with 1155 socket - but depending on the board, it may (read will) cover up the PCIx slot. If you aren't using it, then no problems.

Re: Best case which can accommodate the Zotac ION N330?

Look at some of the In Win cases: http://www.in-win.us/products_pccase.php

I have one and it is attractive, allows for a 3.5 HDD and full-size optical drive depending on your heatsink.

While it comes with a 200w PSU with a loud fan I just took that out. Also, you can find them for pretty cheap.

Re: New high density 2-and-3 TB Greens from WD

Great review - many thanks! FYI, I believe the interface on these drives is SATA 2 (3 GB/s) rather than what is recorded on the initial spec table.

I recently used it to migrate a 320GB boot drive to a 1TB drive without difficulty and found it pretty easy to use, but I did not do anything other than move everything lock, stock, and barrel to the new drive.

I agree that on-line ads are distracting, but I must say that the advertising done on SPCR are not annoying - the banner at the top, some tech related ads and the Google banner - I accept as part of the web-world.

Now, if we could just get SPCR to do some "male enhancement" reviews

It has some appeal - I use a modded Q07 as my daily PC and am very happy with it - very quiet and unassuming.

But - it has space for 6 HDD + optical drive? How many ITX boards have that many SATA headers? I also wish they would move the front panel USB ports to the top.

Fantastic build - I have a similar one using a Ninja 2 on e8500. When I just used the SlipStream blowing through Ninja front-to-back temps where poor, so I drilled some holes in the PSU bracket to mount a 120mm Nexus fan and it works great. I had a Sunbeam fan controller in the expansion slot hole a...

The thought of using a fast SSD for the OS and a larger, slower, cheaper disk for the user data/storage sounds appealing.

With the release of Windows 7 approaching, any thoughts on how to put the User data to the second drive in this OS?

You might look at the Antec NSK 4480 - lots of room, depth is <17". Or the Lian Li PC-V351 - its cube-shaped but would meet your specs (only takes a mATX board I think.)

And what do you mean by splitting the POWER LED connector? The "three-pin" Power LED cable - just cut it in half (down the empty middle pin) and viola' it becomes two one-pin cables that you can just stick on the appropriate pins. Or, just don't connect the damn thing - it frequently feeds an annoy...

You will go from a single quiet fan to a water pump +/- single quiet fan. If your ambient temps are high, the passive heat dissipation will still be poor. An interesting idea moving the radiator/heatsink fins to outside the case, though.

I don't think it looks promising :(

I picked up one of these cases. I am using the Intel DG45FC. Originally I had a pretty quiet FSP full ATX PSU in there, but I found the combination of the PSU fan + Arctic Cooling 7 LP heatsink/fan was very audible and annoying, with only adequate cooling (E8400 idle ~39c, load 49c.) So I swapped ou...

I have the In Win BM648 and it looks nice, but the small PSU fan is fairly loud and runs most of the time. I am in the process of swapping out the PSU for a Pico, and I am hopeful that will be an improvement. With a slim-optical drive, there is room for a reasonable heatsink - I am using an Arctic C...

I agree those temps are too high.

You might get much better cooling if you could move the Ninja fan to the front (over the memory) and blow back through the heat sink toward the exhaust fan. You should be able to get by with a pretty slow fan speed.

Slim OD + USB hub for 5.25 drive bay?

Does anyone know of a kit to allow a slim optical drive and front panel USB/card reader? I ask because I have a case that has only one external 5.25 slot (no 3.5 slot) and USB on bottom of case (hard to reach - I wish more cases came with USB hubs at top!) I would love to use a slim optical drive an...

How is the DG45FC for HD playback ? I read in the renethx HTPC build guide @ AVS that it's not beefy enough for post-processing and can't output 24p in 'excellent' form. I had similar desires and wanted to fiddle with a SFF build. I started with an InWin BM648 because it looks great (which it does) but ultimately found the cooling/noise to be unsatisfactory.
