Hi MoJo, Have you applied changed (save BIOS and reboot) to check it doesn't work (my changes doesn't apply realtime in the BIOS, only affect the result after reboot) ? Are you sure the fan is connected to the motherboard, on a controllable fan pin ? (I can only control speed on 2 of my 3 fan connec...

on my P5K-SE with Intel Core 2 cpu: fan control of the processor works fine (between 800 - 880 rpm, never needed more than that). If I disable Qfan control, fan get much louder. I have different profiles that I can choose from: silent/perfomance/auto. No temperature. fan control of the case: didn't ...

Hi Bendit, about the connectors : original state : * a 2 pin-connector for the ADDA fan (red = power, black = ground) * a 3 pin-connector for the noctua NF-R8 (read/black wires + yellow = speed measurement) To unlplug a wire from the white plastic connector, I use a screwdriver. First you have to no...

I did my fan swap ! first thing : the internal connector for fan control did not provide enough voltage for my noctua NF-R8 to start... a little help allows it to run, but to slowly. So I tried to connect it to my motherboard, but the cable isn't long enough (my fan connector are located at the bott...

My antec earthwatt fan swap : 1st of all, I could open it without too much damaging the warranty sticker. Second think, I found the ADDA fan and it has the sticker on it not centered at all -> removing it already made the fan less vibrating and less noisy. I guess I got a rare example... I was surpr...

my personal impressions: * good choice for the linux environment ;-) * Amd X2 ... Amd are bad overclocker versus the new core 2. If you want performance and good overclockability : take an Intel E4xxx (low fsb / high multiplier). todays Core 2 have low idle power needs (G0 stepping). * memory : 2 go...

yes but when talking about molex connector, I tought about also using the ULNA resistor available with the new fan. Of course without, 12V is too loudy. That way, I loose total thermoregulation. 4.5 V is already a bit high for the noctua fan, but I am not sure about that. Could stilll think about so...

well yes... so this is similar to mine.

my PSU is thermoregulated. (as reviews show increases in noise when doing heavy load tests).

I will see if I connect the monitoring pin... I still have 2 free plugs on my motherboard.

thanks

So I did the "no fan is PSU" noise test (putting something in the fan to avoid it to rotate). And no surprise, it is noticeably quieter then. So I think I will replace my PSU fan... I think I will always have a noisier component in the box, it is a challenge to make the whole box as silent as possib...

I was thinking about the PSU fan control. How do I measure the thermal condition of the PSU, from a motherboard point of view ? Is the PSU not secured to avoid running when no fan is connected ? but yes I could instead use maybe the molex connector of the noctua and hope the airflow will always be h...

I just did open my case ... and turn down every thing (case fan, cpu fan, hdd) ... indead, the hdd could be more silent. Also found out that the case fan isn't an example of silence (I found out that it seems to be a Antec tricool, reviewed somewhere on this website). So I found a tricky way to powe...

ok I will take 2 rubber strips and put my hdd between. But I am pretty sure it is the PSU. (SPCR has multiples threads about antec PSU and fan replacement, about a noisy ADDA fan)

I will check if I still have a Nexus hdd silent block set... (used in an older computer).

In the nsk 4480 there are silicon mounts for the harddisks ... so that's not the issue. also the samsung disk is not a noisy one.

I will try to 'disable' the fan and listen again...
thanks for the advice ...

by the way, I ordered a 8cm noctua an hour ago... still need to confirm

ok that's a good point... I looked at the actual fan rating (ADDA AD0812HS-70GL) : 12V 3W 3010 rpm 38 CFM 34 dBA (don"t know the distance or the measure conditions) So .. in the PSU, I guess it doesn't run at 12V in idle, but only at full load. If I take a Noctua NF-R8: 12V 800 rpm / 26 CFM 1800 rpm...

Hi, I own a antec NSK 4480... with an Intel E6550 and a passive VGA. From my own experience, the loudest of all the 3 fans (cpu intel stock / case 12 cm / PSU 80mm) is the one from the PSU. But to be fair, my computer is really quiet, even if it could always be better. Some people say (see http://ww...

fan replacement in PSU ?

Hi all, I am new to silentpcreview, but found this site very interesting. I bought a new computer a month ago. I am very happy with it, and my focus was low noise (or even better, no noise at all). So the noise related specs are : E6550 with stock cooler nvidia 8600 gt passive antec NSK4480 case (wi...

Hi, I own a P5K SE with a E6550 on it. About motherboard temperature, I got 34°C even when in burn mode. Cpu temperatures are around 25 in idle and 47 in burn. I tried overclocking my cpu to 3 GHz. Then the motherboard started to warm up (yes higher FSB means more power dissipated in the chipset): ...
