It was only 50% load because the CPU burn-in app appears to be single threaded. To get 100% loading I use CPUburn from http://users.bigpond.net.au/CPUburn/ and run as many instances as there are threads. I don't have air cooling and this way I can be sure that there is enough headroom for a heavy d...

Now I'm really getting fired up about a 'Zero Moving Parts' PC. If I am not making noise then I don't have to consume precious finances on "silent" or "quiet" components. I can use a cheap power supply as long as it can be adapted for convection cooling. Normally for a quiet build the challenge is t...

When all the choosing is done and you get started on your build here a quieting tip: You can get a big improvement in the loudness and character of the noise of the rear chassis fan. Put a 2.5 cm (1 inch) duct in between the fan and the chassis grill to give the turbulent air coming off of the the f...

The Antec 300 is probably the worst case for building a silent computer. Everything about this case is the opposite of what you want for a silent build. These are the major flaws for a silent build: > there is an acoustic leak on the side > there is an acoustic leak on the top > there is an acoustic...

The Sonata Elite:
- This case has a lot of potential for building a silent system and has a lockable door that deters toddlers.
- The case can be quieted further by putting a self sticking floor tile on the side panel.

You can get enough air sucked into the case with only a single fan blowing out the back. The challenge is to get the system reasonably quiet and non-annoying at idle. You can build a quiet PC doing the things that you are doing. Two slow fans mounted on the front of the Antec 300 will be closer to y...

I suggest this experiment:

- put 2 of the Scythe S-Flex F fans on the 2 front panel locations and connect them to the cpu fan header.
- connect the Scythe S-Flex F on the Ninja to the system fan header.
- leave the side, top and rear fan positions empty.

I have operated multiple fans from the cpu fan header. It works great. The spcr article "http://www.silentpcreview.com/article695-page5.html#sflex" indicates that the S-Flex SFF21F that they tested used only 1.05 watts at 12 volts which is 88ma and much lower that than the scythe spec'd 200ma. The s...

There are lots of good coolers out there. It depends on your goals and the prices and availability. I recommend the Scythe Mugen 2 as a great combination of quietness, performance and price balance. Changing to a Mugen 2 and ducting it to the rear of the chassis with some "tupperware" from the dollar store would also eliminate the need for the noisy rear chassis fan.

If your power supply has a 120mm fan adjacent to the CPU, then rotating your CPU Heat Sink won't solve your concern about the PS inhaling heated air. If you are determined to have cooler air for your PS in this chassis, then a PS swap and/or ducting forward might be a solution.

Yes, the fan can be easily flipped around so that it blows towards the CPU cooler. (And as always the reminder: "When you break the seal on the PSU case your warranty has ended.") Reducing Annoying Fan Noise

The air on the high pressure (output) side of a fan is very turbulent. Placing this turbulent air against the heatsink fins or the chassis grill will sometimes cause unpleasant effects. Placing a 2-3 cm (1 inch) duct in between the fan and the heatsink fins or the chassis grill will give the turbule...
