It didn't seem to affect browsing or music listening much, but today I tried checking blender, and it was totally unusable, as the drop-down menus took several seconds to disappear. I could see the pixels disappearing line-by-line. Slo-mo is cool but not when you're trying to actually do something.....

Athlon X2 5000 BE acting strangely, why?
I'm testing Windows 7 and loving it. But something CPU-related is up. My 2.6Ghz Athlon X2 Black Edition gets an Experience Index Score of 1.8, which seems awfully little. Rest of the components all get 2.9 or more. I'm on an Asus M3A78-VM (Ati 780G) with 2GB ram and plenty of hdd. I have tried turni...

This is a start: http://www.frostytech.com/top5_lowprofile_heatsinks.cfm
I'm looking for one myself, but so far it seems that most low-profile coolers have fans on top, and when the fan is removed, there's only ~5cm of heatsink left which is not enough to run passively.. :/

Volume sliders checked, problem still there. In addition, the little sound that comes appears to me more garbled than before.. :/ Scrolling the mouse wheel can be heard from the speakers, as well as hdd noise.. Speakers are also fine, I checked. Front and back connectors behave similarly, so no loos...

PSU broke my sound card?
Hi! I was waiting for my Chieftec PSU to arrive, but wanted to use my PC. So I used an old no-name PSU I had lying around. After 2 days, I suddenly lost mobo's integrated sound. No other changes were made to hardware or software.. Well, not really lost.. if I turn the speakers way up, I can hear bar...

I thought about getting a picoPsu a while back. But I failed to find a store that would ship it to Estonia, or at least, would do it for a reasonable fee. So for now I'll try to make the best of what's at hand.. I thought about replacing the case, but I haven't been able to find anything else that's...

mATX case airflow project
It's not a very good case, apart from being compact. Yesterday I found that after 10h of use, my 2,5" Samsung HDD temp is 47C, which is not good. Only place where i can put a 12cm fan is on top. I could even fit 2 there if I really need to. The red circles show the possible positions. This way I cou...

Apart from a couple of desktop mATX cases on newegg I haven't really seen anything useful. And the smaller ones tend to have proprietary PSU's, which are not very quiet. You could always try to build my case concept, which is the smallest design for a mATX motherboard and a normal PSU I could come u...

I did a cardboard model last week and it seems that with some motherboards it may even be possible to use an external graphics board. It's not really necessary, but might be useful for example with the upcoming AMD 780G which supports crossfire.. :) Real construction is delayed a bit for monetary re...

I am using ECC memory with my Asus M2a-vm. It has a bios option for enabling or disabling support. I am having other kind of issues with my pc however, like display flicker on hibernation, failing to come out of standby sometimes, flickering pixels and such. I don't know if my monitor is faulty, but...

Im using the Feel 101, since it was cheap. But it came without PSU, which in turn cost as much as the case.. :P Quality is not the highest, as I scratched the paint almost immediately. Panels don't fit exactly, but are a few mm off. It doesn't silence the fans at all, as the steel is thin. Maybe wit...

Smallest mATX concept
I've been looking at my box and thinking that, since all I have in there is a motherboard, 2.5" HDD and a DVD, then maybe a smaller case would be nice. So this morning a thought about it and this is my concept: http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/1346/equivalentsv2.jpg How do I justify that? Well, it...

Update!
I am posting this from my newly-assembled system.
Asus M2A-VM
AMD X2 5000+ BE
Zalman 8700
Samsung HM250JI
2GB 533 Hynix
Samsung DVD
If only I had bought a bit more quality case - the PSU fan is a killer - but otherwise works nicely. Thanks everyone for helping out!

I upgraded bios from 1301 to 1603 and now my multiplier selection is greyed out - which is bad, since I'm using AMD 5000+ Black Edition.. :( Also, I'm seeing some sort of display garbage - odd flashing pixels in some places. They aren't monitor-related, since when I move a window that has them, the ...

If you just remove the display and battery it may be small and light enough to _hang_ behind a monitor. Specifically, some monitors have VESA screw holes in the back, for wall mounting. While on the table, those holes are unused and a frame for holding the ex-laptop could be screwed there. That may ...

Since the AMD platform is a bit cheaper, a 690G motherboard with Athlon X2 5000+ should give comparable performance to e4400 for less, right? I can get Black Edition for 136$, which should be trivial to overclock, afaik. Also, Opteron 1214 is available for 115$ (it's the 125W version though, so prob...

I think you'd probably get more useful replies if you stated what kind of software you're using (e.g. Aperture, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autodesk, VersaCAD, Maya, DiCOM), your budget, and your technical background. "Graphics" is a very broad term, and different kinds of software have different hardw...

Since my laptop -- venerable Dell C400 from 2001 -- is increasingly insufficient for my needs, I need to build something better. But I need to clarify a few things with your help before I can start working on a component list. Question 1 : Is an integrated graphics card good enogh quality for digita...
