Del Inspiron 1564 - Core i3
Hi, I have just got my new Dell Inspiron 1564 with a Core i3 processor and its a very cool system for the price.. Only annoying thing is the fan cycling on and off all the time.. I have done things like turn off the transparency in the aero theme and disables windows search thinking that by having l...

Idle CPU heat output..
How do you know how much heat a CPU will output when idle? I have one system with an E4400 cpu which could happily sit there with a passive ninja and never get hot, it sits in the low 30C's.. I have another system with a E6700 that has an HR-01 with a fan running at 650rpm when its idle and its in t...

Just an update.. I built the new box.. Specs E4400 cpu Asus P5KPL-AM EPU motherboard 4GB RAM 2x 500GB Seagate 7200rpm SATA drives Idle is now 58W (compared to old server at 200w) and I would imagine a lower power more efficient PSU could take a bit more off that since I am using the Antec PSU that c...

Need to replace a 200W idle server...
Hi all, I have just done an investigation in the house to work out why my electricity bills are so high and one of the main offenders is my dual xeon server which idles at 200W.. :( This server runs VMware and in the past ran 6 virtual servers but now its only running 2 and these are idle nearly all...

Variable or fixed speed case fans?
What is the generally preferred way of setting up your case fans.. Statically set RPM/voltage or variable using a thermal probe of some sort?

Mine isn't spinning fast enough to resonate.. usually its doing less than 600rpm and I can't get a reading below that so can't tell you what the actual speed is.. :) What fans you using? Scythe Slip Stream SY1225SL12M.. Right now I am testing with only one in the top of the case and one in the lowe...

Thanks for the interesting input.. I think a valid point is the selection of the components.. For example if running one of the extreme graphics cards then I see how the case would help massively to reduce the noise.. Maybe a bad example since gamers aren't "usually" too fussed with the noise the PC...

Thats really the point.. If the PC was running at ambient temperature inside the fans, if any, would have to spin so slowly, if at all, that there wouldn't be any noise anyway.. If anything it would be fan bearing noise and so with the right fans even that wouldn't be an issue.. Its just a theory an...

Is the case the noisy component?
Ok, let me explain.. :) We are on a mission to minimise noise from our PC's but we put these heat generating components into closed boxes and then try an work out ways to silently pass air through them.. Now I know the case is there not only to house the components but also to block/reduce/minimise ...

PWM fan recomendation? (Scythe, Nexus or AC)
Hi..
I need some 92mm PWM fans for an HP desktop.. The choices I have seem to be Scythe, Nexus or Arctic cooling.. I know scythe are popular in the forums but are also the most expensive..
Which of these brands offers the best performance for the money?
Thanks..

92mm PWM fans??
Hi..
I need to get a couple of 92mm pwm fans for an HP DC7600..
Looking at the Artic Cooling fans because they are the cheapest brand name I recognise.. Obviously buying cheap is often dangerous..
Are these any good or should I be looking at others..
TIA

Advice on silencing an HP DC7600
Hi, I have just inherited an HP DC7600 with a Pentium D dual core processor.. (Pentium D's have quite a high TDP don't they?) I plan to use it to replace my P4 3Ghz VMware server.. The system seems to have a custom shaped PSU with what looks like a 92MM fan, it has a 92mm PWM fan on the rear and an ...

Question to the OP, though. Why do you have a gigabit card when your mobo already has two gigabit connections onboard (nForce and Marvell)? Helping a friends kid make his PC quiet but he has very little money.. I have given him some of my old fans that I have tried and don't use but I haven't got a CPU cooler to give him so he has to get it from his pocket money.. Fortunately his motherboard has Q-Fan to do the work, just requires a coo...
