Re: News for 2011-01-27
Err, the article says that OpenOffice isn't open source anymore, which is incorrect. It's still LGPL, same as LibreOffice.

UNDERVOLTING DOESN'T SLOW YOUR PC and doesn't cause any risks While investigating PHC on Linux, a while ago, I read that it could in fact damage your hardware. I can't find that article/mail anymore but I remember that the explanation involved some component turning into a current sink and getting ...

Or which of the low power CPUs, like E8400 or 4850e, can be passively cooled, using the duct to the case fan. For what it's worth, I have a E8400 in a P182, the HR-01 Plus is fan-ducted to a Noctua S12-800 @ 12V and the case has a S12-800 @ ~5V at the top, and no amount of intensive computation can...

FWIW, I'd like to mention that I've tried using the trial version of XP 64 on a E8400 plugged into a GA-P35-DS3L and it didn't work out too well. One of Gigabyte's drivers update screwed up my USB (had to plug my keyboard/mouse via PS/2 for them to work) and after installing the latest Service Pack ...

Could I just substitute that for the Q6600 on my proposed build without switching the mobo? Yeah, no problem here, but I'd recommend the DS3 over the DS3L if it's not much more expensive. The other DS3's (not-L) are supposed to have better capacitors (Japanese capacitors, no idea why they're suppos...

From the Wasn't There An Ice Floe Here? blog, sums it up. "A bunch of fail-trolls quote random fail-blogs and expect people to turn their brain off while reading. Too bad it only works on retards." Actually, the information about oceans not warming up is interessant, too bad it's quoted from such a ...

@JaYp146: no camera in my phone, sorry. @Tzupy: FYI, most of the time my CPU runs 10°C lower than whatever the other sensor of my MB is attached to, so I don't mind if that lukewarm air goes through the heatsink. I didn't take the time to run tests, but I don't think that in my case the duct improv...

Received it today and I've just finished mounting it on my GA-P35-DS3L. It's a bit of a pain to make it fit, but I confirm that you can use a HR-01+ with the blue duct. As I said above, I have a GA-P35-DS3L and the HR-01+ is almost perfectly aligned with the rear fan. In order to install the duct, I...

Actually, when I talked about rubber bands I was thinking about craft sewing elastics, like that one . I'd expect those to withstand at least some degree of heat before deteriorating (hey, you don't cold wash all of your clothes :)). Plus, they're woven so even if the rubber part deteriorated it wou...

It looks like it should help cools some of the components near the CPU, but the SPCR review leads me to believe that looks are deceiving in that regard. The first thing I thought when I saw it was "it pushes hot air down to the motherboard's components". And that's the problem with that kind of hea...

Thanks to all and sorry I didn't reply earlier. I have taken a look at mATX builds for a while, but I finally went with the P182 because the size doesn't really matter (the case rests under some desk) and I like its look  I finally ordered the parts last week and recently finished building it....

Since you're trying to reduce your number of drives, have you considered running both from the same drive, in different partitions? Vista's loader should allow that.Tomson wrote:I need two drives for 2 OS

Hello everyone, I've been lurking in the forums for a few weeks now, in anticipation of building my first PC in years, and while the site is choke-full of useful informations I'm still having a few doubts about my config so I'm looking for advice and feedback. My usage is mainly browsing the interne...
