Re: Silent advice - Gaming Rig
I hear you on the cpucooler... Although I'd like some confirmation that it will fit inside the R2 case... Will probably change the gpucooler eventually, but not right away, a bit too strapped for cash for that. I decided to go for the TX 650 psu, but still a little worried about the clearance with t...

Re: Silent advice - Gaming Rig
The ssd stays, I have a HTPC for storage anyways.... I have no complaints about my noctuafans, and prefer them over scythe. The only worry I have for the ninja is if it will fit in the R2 case? I've heard that it's a close fit, but im not sure... Have anybody tried this? The psu I know nothing about...

Software choices for an HTPC build?
Hey! Didn't really know where to post this topic, so feel free to move it to a better place. I'm currently planning a htpc build, and are pretty clear on what parts to use. What Im not sure about yet, is what software to run. With the experience I have, I'll say that the right software is just about...

CPU for HTPC use
Hello!
I'm building a HTPC, and have a Intel C2D 6850 lying around. I was wondering if that one will run hotter than a E5200? Those are pretty cheap, but if it doesnt make a difference tempwise, I dont see a reason for putting out cash for it. as far as I see, it uses the same wattage, 65W?

Looking for good HTPC case with slim Depth!
Hey! I'm looking for a HTPC case with sleek minimalistic design and NOT deeper than 35-37 cm (about 14 inches). I know it's hard to find a resonably high (about 12-13 cm) case like this, so I'm ready to compromise a bit. The HTPC has to be able to run FullHD smoothly. Right now I have a atx motherbo...

Pretty big heatsink.
Is it a lot cooler than a 8800GT? I have one now, and if it aint that big difference, I'll just keep my 8800GT

Hey!
I'm looking for the coolest card that will run 1080HD smoothly.
I have a spare accelero that I will fit on it if it's compatible.

I would recommend looking at the articles here on SPCR as they have tested many fans. I would highly recommend against Noctua as they aren't that quiet and you pay a lot of money for the let-down. They are less noisy than Scythe/Yate Loon. The adapter for 600rpm operation is also a nice feature. No...

Hey!
Is there any good HTPC cases that will fit an Thermalright HR-01 Plus? All I've seen are about 2 cm to narrow.
Cheers.

Well, If going for one Harddrive, the bottom fan is not neccessary. I'm running my lower compartment empty, with the PSU alone, and I have my Harddrive suspended in elastics in the top 5.25" slot instead. This wrks good for me. Experiment a bit first and see what you think. EDIT: Välkommen till SPC...

I'll have to say that the harddrives will be your akilles-heel. They will be the noisiest components, but also generate quite some heat, that may ramp up the PSU-fan. for the rest of the system, I'd recommend to slam on a noctua 120 mm each on the cpu and GPU, and run them with the supplied volt-reg...

And the Scythe Slip Stream is a good and quiet fan which won't sound more than my Noctuas? Maybe it would be better to get the Slip Stream 800 and undervolt it to 600? You can actually fit 2 120 mm fans on there, (although there might be some overhang by say 1-2 mm) something like 500rpm scythe fans should do it, for easy cablecontrol (no extra adapters and so). The plastic thingies are called zip-ties. The vga chipset coolers aren't that bad, just remember to cle...

Listening to the velociraptor in its heatsink, the main thing I noticed was a high pitched whine which did alter if the hdd was repositioned. I don't know if removing the heatsink will deal with this. I don't think it will differ, but putting the baby in a Scythe quiet drive will. My high pitched n...

As far as speed goes, a 640GB drive should maintain its transfer rates further into the disk than a 320 GB one. There's twice as much space, so if you're just comparing the first 320 gigabytes, the smaller drive's speed will be considerably slower toward the end of the disk, while the larger one wi...

All of my Noctua S-12 starts at about 400 rpm or so. The adapter that comes with the fan drops the rpm to about 600 if I remember correctly. So the 900 rpm issue is likely cause of the fancontroller. I had a E6850 cooled with TRUE and S-12 at 600 rpm, and that got me temp at about 20 over ambient, s...

Yes, the Velociraptor will not fit in the Scythe Quiet Drive. But it's great for bringing down the noiselevel of the drive, so what I did was to skip one of the aluminumbricks, and one of the thermalpads, and Voila!, you will have a tight fit in the Scythe. You can use both aluminum bricks if you'd ...
