I have recently added a 700rpm 120mm fan to increase airflow to that area of the motherboard and I still had the issue, though I don't think the fan has made a huge difference. I shall disable the audio when im back home and try playing a HD film and see what happens. Might be a bit odd playing a fi...

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. I have been stressing the Graphic card and that is easily within reasonable temperatures. I haven't recently stressed the CPU, but will start one off today whilst I am out and see how things go, though im pretty sure the CPU temps are OK. I thought it might be a he...

Sorry, yea I forgot to mention that this is a fair recent problem. I have only noticed it within the last few months. I used K-Lite Mega codec pack with Media Player Classic Home Cinema for my videos, and always have. I do my best to keep it up to date, though haven't updated the codecs for a month ...

Thanks for the quick reply. Thats re-assuring to know and kinda what i have been thinking for the past few hours after some in depth research...may have to un-cancel my order then. My 7800GT has handled a fair bit since i got it, and will play 1080p fine most of the time. It was a pretty expensive c...

Oh, forgot to mention a couple of things. The card must be a quiet as possible (am happy to purchase an after market cooler [HR-03 GTX] for quite operation if needed), especially since the pc in question is often used for movie's and high end audio so the less hum from the graphics...the better. I h...

High performance but low power consumption GPU

Hi all, I'm currently in the market for a new graphics card as my 3 year old 7800GT with Thermalright HR-03GT cooler is showing signs of age and just doesn't doesn't cut it any more (i think it might be suffering power issues too as my system can randomly crash under fairly graphic intensive loads s...

Server Finished

Well.. the remaining bits for the server arrived on Wednesday, and after 2 solid days of transfering files across as well as hard disks from my main pc to the server, it is finally complete. I am stunned at how quiet it is, only thing to solve now, is the slight whine from the hard disks when the ro...

Good work with the HDD-suspensions, but you really should have done something to that horrid airflowkiller (fan guard) in the rear... Tell me about it, it wont be there for long. As soon as i get the time to remove it, it'll go. As for the HDD suspension, that took me somewhere around 2-3 hours to ...

New home server build - Low Power

So i recently decided to build myself a home server to keep a variety of documents backed up, store my ever expanding music and video collection, and run a small variety of programs in the background. :D After days or browsing the net for a pre-built system that met my spec or at least come close, i...

I have nearly the same problem in mine and its one of my disk drives.

With your computer running, place your hand on each Hard disk and see if you can feel the droning through your hand, if you can then its the hard disk.

I dont think the HD is an IBM, its a Maxtor one i think. I can tell you though that it send a very slow (around 1Hz) on off hum through the whole case. Although you can't hear it, you can feel it when you put your hand on the case. at that frequency, your case would be thumping, not humming. Lol, t...

Cheers. It is a little cramped, but its certainly not helped by the fact that i am yet to properly sort out the wiring in the case, which should remove most of the excess wires. I eventually plan on completely removing the PATA HDD as the only purpose it has in the current system is to keep a backup...

Quick Update

A Quick Update: Since my first post, i started to notice that i could hear the graphics card whiring away quietly in the background. At first i had to listen carefully to hear it, but now that i've got used to the quietness of the computer it began to bug me. So, taking matters into my own hands I s...

Im a big Strongbow fan as well. Thankfull in england there seems to be no end of places that sell it. Shame its not imported...
