Unfortunately, all this cooling business has already thrown me over-budget, so these are the parts I've got to work with and that's that. This can take absolutely no more time or money. I'm already having mental breakdowns. Seriously. That's a good idea for the rear exhaust fan though, I was going t...

O_o Where would I get something like that? Well, either way, honestly, if it's some custom mod job requiring tools and not a kit that a computer store sells, it's out of the question for me. I've had this pile of new parts sitting here nearly 3 weeks and can't wait much longer to get it running so I...

Heh they're not plugged into anything right now because I'm still setting up the computer and have yet to boot it for the first time. I can flip the heatsink 180º as of right now, and if I want to rotate it 90º or 270º I'd have to take out the motherboard and rearrange the clips to support that a...

I think the rear of my case might be over-crowded [airflow?]
So this is what the current setup is looking like: http://www.doomworld.com/insanity/images/newunit/DSC01872_fix_640.jpg http://www.doomworld.com/insanity/images/newunit/DSC01873_fix_640.jpg The CPU heatsink's causing a bit of an overlap with the PSU and rear exhaust fans. The PSU fan shouldn't have...

OK cool. Yeah my main concern was if heat transferred from the processor to the caps (since it's at the level before it filters up and out) that the caps can't get overheated or anything. If it actually absorbed their heat too, that would be nice :P There is the slightest of slight pressure on the c...

Is it bad if the heatsink base touches any solid capacitors?
So I finally got this heatsink (XP-90) on my board, and it's very slightly pressing into this row of capacitors: http://www.doomworld.com/insanity/images/newunit/DSC01851_crop.jpg http://www.doomworld.com/insanity/images/newunit/DSC01850_crop.jpg The heatsink is like 1mm too short to go on top of th...

I love you guys :D Heh man I didn't even know about slipstreaming until now. I gotta look further into that in the morning, I already found something about constructing a bootable CD. That would be nice, since I was already planning to make a CD of drivers, updates and such. Anyway, short SATA cable...

Misc noob hardware questions [paste, cables, fan plugs, etc]
OK, as you may or may not know, I'm assembling my first computer in ~8 years, so I've been freaking out over every little detail. I managed to get all my hardware picked out, now I just have a few minor concerns remaining in the setup. 1. Thermalpaste application? Arctic Silver 5 - spread it out ove...

Heh no problem, glad the pics were of use :D What case are you using? Wonder if it's too long for a P182 with a fan on the middle "tunnel". Just this Atrix mid-tower , the case itself is fine (most reviewers seem to be complaining about the cheap power supply which anybody here would know to replace...

They're always necessary to get new machines booted and up and running when all the new-and-amazingly-simple install proceedures miraculously fail and you have to resort to tried-and-true instead. Once that's done, though, you can probably disconnect the drive, and do the "temporary installations" N...

Heh, well I don't have tin-snips (or if I do I don't know what they are), I don't intend to do a bunch of cutting up, I just want stuff to work as it comes, but to that extent I suppose I could just mount the 2 current fans on the outside. Well, I can't do much about airflow configurations without getting a whole new case. Even if I could afford one, it took months to find this one, so either way it's gotta stay. Why do you say side case fans are too noisy? Compared to what, front or rear fans? Because in that third image, I was testi...

ugh, UGH, UGH! There seems to have been a kink in my masterplan :? Yeah the 3870 fits fine (my hardware just arrived and I was able to test it a few hours ago), but the top heatsink on the 3850 is actually larger than on the 3870 (that's the main reason I ordered the 3870 over 3850), so it can't be said for sure about the 3850 unless somebody with it can verify. Lo...

I haven't tried it myself, but a friend of mine has, and he had nothing but problems. His system is fairly recent (1-2 years), so all his hardware worked fine. The problem was trying to use all the 32-bit programs in a 64-bit environment; apparently this is what WoW64 attempts to accomplish. It's es...

By "decouple", you mean hold the fan out so it's not pressing against the case? And does that also mean those rubber plugs that come with the Nexus aren't compatible with those gaskets? I just thought the gaskets would be better since they seal the fans against the case so there's no gaps thus ensur...

[AcoustiFan] Silicon Fan Gaskets?
So I'm digging through EndPCNoise.com and I come across these silicon fan gaskets from AcoustiFan - 80mm , 92mm , 120mm . I already have a Scythe S-FLEX E 120mm for the front of the PC, and I was going to order 2 Nexus Real Silent 80mms for case side and 1 Nexus Real Silent 92mm for rear exhaust. Ar...
