Dust Filter questions

Good morning, I'm building a custom case, a few questions: 1) How much of a CFM drop per fan would I see if I install S-Flex 800rpm 33cfm fans, and the following filters, if the fan is also behind speaker-mesh? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16811999208 2) Does speaker-mes...

If what you had was an annoying high-pitch noise then I've encountered the same problem, but with a HX520W. This was in a system I was building for somebody, my own HX520W is fine. RMA'd it. New one didn't have that, but had coil while, which, thankfully, did not persist when connected to a 220v (E...

They're louder than a modu82+, but by how much?

A straight arrangement would solve the problems I've been having fitting a PSU in my custom case.

For CPU waterblock, although I don't watercool, I've heard very good things about the D-Tek Fuzion. You should take a look.

Two reasons.

#1, it's more securely installed, and a much lower chance of it ever falling off, say, if you're transporting the case somewhere, and causing damage.

#2, higher pressure on your CPU, causes better contact, and better flow of heat.

That will help it cool, but it shouldn't be necessary. Provided your warranty's expired, if yours is overheating, consider opening it up, and cleaning the dust out.

I had this problem in an old Toshiba P4 laptop, was completely clogged with dust, cleaning it out really helped.

If we ignore the fact that wood isn't a very good conductor of heat, here's the problem with using it to cool the laptop. A diagram of where the heat needs to go to get from the CPU to the wood: CPU --> Thermal Paste --> Heatsink --> Air --> Plastic case --> Rubber feet --> Wooden table Due to this,...

I'd use an Accelero S1 and drill a hole in the side panel for an 80mm exhaust fan or something.

Unfortunately this might be the only way, unless you use stock cooling, or watercooling.

You might want to consider a mini-size keyboard. I recently got this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823110006 and really like it. It gives me a lot more room to move my mouse around, and feels more comfortable due to laptop-style keys. But if you want a standard-size keyboard...

And yeah, I'd put filters underneath. With 2cm clearance however, I'm not sure if there would be turbulence you're gonna filter it and have only 2cm clearance? the PSU is going to struggle to "breathe", IMO. too much restriction. I see. Yeah, this is what I was worried about. Guess I'll have to fit...

1cm is tight but 2cm should be plenty if the entire case has that much clearance underneath. The only concern would be dust intake. You may want to detail what everything in that sketch is, though. It's not really clear what we're looking at. ATM the sketch is in a very early state. But I can give ...

What motherboard are you using? Most, even with very little airflow, will not need a heatsink replacement for the northbridge.

I suggest putting the CPU in first-thing, that way, the absolute least chance you get any thermal compound on the pins. Also, don't remove it unless you absolutely need to (such as to switch it out or lap it) or you may accidentally damage the pins in the socket. I had to RMA my board to ASUS, which...

Would there be problems with PSU's with 120mm fans in a setup like this: http://img526.imageshack.us/my.php?image=caseyv9.jpg

For your build, I would suggest AMD, and a 780G board. Intel may have slightly better processors, but the 780G's integrated graphics are far superior to everything Intel has, and you'll avoid having to get a graphics card alltogether. edit: Also, the 1600RPM S-Flex probably won't be 'ultra quiet'. The stock Zalman fans sound terribly loud. I believe the 9500 uses 92mm fans, so you're a bit more fortunate than me (8700 uses 110mm -_-)

Hi all. This is my first post and it is a doozy. So, I find myself looking to build a PC for gaming as well as a schoolwork machine (grad school p...

After dealing with a very loud system (40db, I'd guess) for a while I've decided that my next build is going to be more quiet. My CPU cooler arrived today. Where are you using the 60mm fan? I cant think of anywhere it would be useful. On the north/south bridge sure, but you can easily get passive cooling for those, and most boards already passively cool them, so unless your majorly overclocking them it wont matter. Nowhere else in your system would ma...
